"Hey, Nika!"
I turned my head only to see a calm and pretty face smiling at me. It was Hinata Tachibana, my classmate, and the very first person in this class that had become my friend.
"Oh, hey," I said, smiling back.
On my first day here as a transferee, she was the first one who approached me. She was a nice girl with a cute smile.
"Do you want to go to the cafeteria with me?" She asked. "Let's eat together."
"Uhm, is it.. okay?"
"Of course!"
The first time we talked, she told me to just call her 'Hina' just like what everyone calls her. I was, of course, shy at first. I actually thought she was just talking to me out of pity because I was a newbie and was always alone, but I found out that she was really just kind and friendly. I was happy that we're starting to get close. I really liked her.
"You said you're from Wakayama, right?" she asked as we were making our way to the school's cafeteria.
I nodded. "I was."
"So, how do you find Tokyo?"
I looked at her and sighed. "It's not bad," I said, smiling. "I'm still adjusting and I like the people." And then I absent-mindedly added, "Except for that guy, though."
Hina looked at me, confused. "That guy? Who?"
I chuckled. "Oh, I just met an annoying blonde guy yesterday and pissed the hell out of me, nothing important."
She chuckled, too. "Must be a delinquent."
"Delinquent?"
"Yeah. There are actually lots of delinquents here," she said. "They form different gangs and it's not just here in Tokyo but also from the neighboring cities. They're responsible for chaos, streetfights, and some even do crimes that even the police are having a hard time controlling them."
I felt shivers running down my spine just by hearing what she was saying. "That's carry."
The cafeteria was filled with students and Hina and I sat in one of the vacant table after ordering our foods. I got quite a few people throwing stares at me and giving insulting chuckles since I was the 'new kid' from the Kansai Region. I sighed. Just what is wrong with these people?
"Ignore them," Hina suddenly said. "They're just like that since you're new. They would get over it soon."
"Yeah, I hope so."
I didn't wanna involve myself in any trouble now that I was starting a new life here in Tokyo. I wanted everything to just be peaceful, so I was trying my best to ignore those judging people who laugh whenever I walk pass them. Good thing there were people here like Hina, making my adjustment to the school life here in the city easier.
As I was walking home from school that afternoon, I was thinking about what Hina had told me earlier about the delinquents here.
Imagine just peacefully walking down the street then some badass teenager decided to punch you for no actual reason. Imagine being stuck in a middle of a gang war between groups of delinquents when you were just trying to go home.
So it's like this in this part of Tokyo?
"That sure is scary," I said to myself, silently walking.
Hina told me that the blonde guy I met yesterday in the convenience store might be a delinquent but remembering how he looked, he didn't seem like he's someone who would be in a gang. I mean, he's short and didn't look scary at all. He probably was just some random lazy-looking asshole, not a delinquent.
Ugh, why did I even still think about that annoying guy?
Thankfully, I was able to eat my favorite dorayaki for today. When I came to the store, they already had tons of new stocks so I bought two, compensating for not having to eat it yesterday. I was smiling when I got home but there was no one around when I got there. I was used to it, though. Dad and Mom were in still in their works so it's usually just me and my younger brother Yukihiro here in the house.
But Yuki still wasn't home yet.
I was in my room and was rummaging through my closet when I heard the front door opened.
"Yuki?" I called. "Is that you?"
No one answered. Confused, I got out of my room only to see my 13-year-old younger brother sitting on the couch, hugging his knees with his face down. My forehead creased even more when I saw red stains on his white school uniform and he seemed to be sobbing.
Wait, what is happening?
"Yuki?" I said, tapping him. "What happened?"
And that's when he looked up.
My brother's face was awful. His nose and right eye brow were bleeding. His clothes was dirty and blood-stained, and he had a dark ring around his left eye. He wasn't wearing any shoes and he was a total mess. He looked at me, crying. "N-Nika.."
"Y-Yuki?!" I immediately grabbed his shoulders, my eyes widened. "What happened?! Why are you--"
"S-Some guys on the street," he said, sobbing. "They took my bag and my--my shoes, I--I was just walking, I didn't do anything--"
I felt my jaw tightened at what he said. My eyes started heating up because of anger. Who the hell did this to Yuki?!
"T-They beat me and threw my bag and my shoes in the trash--"
"Who did this to you?!"
He didn't speak and just shook his head, looking scared.
"Answer me, Yuki!"
He closed his eyes, tears flowing down his cheeks. "T-Toman," he said. "They said they're Toman--"
"Where are they?!"
"No! you'll get hurt, too--"
"Just tell me!"
He looked down. "The park." He cried even more. "J-Just ignore them, it's fine! I'm okay!"
He looked really scared. My brother was such in an awful state that my heart felt like exploding because of anger.
I shook my head. No. This is absolutely not okay and there's no way I'm ignoring this.
I immediately grabbed my shoes and walked out the door, ignoring my brother's voice calling my name. My whole being was shaking in anger as I made my way to the park and my eyes was heating as I fight the tears that were threatening to fall.
Toman, huh? Wait for me, you assholes!
