|20| It All Comes Tumbling Down

August 2, 2012

It's been a while since I've been truly happy. So long, that I've almost forgotten what it felt like. I am at peace with myself. I am content with my life. I feel invincible, confident- like nothing could stop me.

We've gone on at least 5 dates a week, every week. They've all been perfect- every single one. Evan and I have bonded, and gotten to know each other so much better. We're a real couple now, and I love it.

"Tai," a voice said, breaking me out of my trance. Evan. "What are you thinking about?"

"You," I smiled, pecking him on the cheek. I looked back down at the magazine I was reading, scanning the article on how to lose extra body fat.

"Well, you had a smile on your face, so, I'm guessing it was good thoughts?" he said, more asking me than telling me.

"They were," I replied, confirming his assumptions. I glanced up at Evan, looking away from my magazine. We were chilling out in Valerie's backyard, laying in the hot summer sun. "So, what are we doing today?"

"May I suggest, swimming?" Evan said, gesturing to Valerie's extremely large pool.

I've never seen anyone ever swim in it this whole summer, even though it looks heavenly. Amaya told me it's heated, but the last time she swam in it was when she was 15. I pray that it's still heated, because heated pools are the absolute best.

"I agree with that suggestion," I stated. Evan slipped off his blue shirt, and just dived right into the pool. He broke through the top of the water, with a wide grin on his face.

"It. Is. Amazing." he revealed.

"Okay, okay! I'm coming in!" I took off my t-shirt and shorts, leaving me in my underwear. Evan's eyes raked my body, and I folded my arms over my chest. "Hey!"

"Sorry, it's not my fault that my girlfriend is wicked hot." Evan laughed, thrashing his arms in the water. I stuck my tongue out at him, before I jumped in. Warm water instantly surrounded me, cooling and heating my body at the same time. I love it when I'm underwater. All of my senses are numb- I can't feel anything. Once I emerged from the water, I was met with Evan's lips against mine.

I moaned as our kiss became more passionate. His tongue slipped into my mouth, and it danced with mine. I instantly felt bad, for not inviting Amaya to join us. She is my best friend. She is the one who fixed my first serious relationship.

"Evan," I said, breaking our kiss. I placed my wet hand onto his toned chest. "Shouldn't we get Amaya?"

"I guess so," Evan shrugged. He seemed a little disappointed, but I didn't care.

I climbed out of the pool. I felt Evan's eyes on my back as I walked away. Perv. I made my way passed Valerie, who was baking cookies. My stomach rumbled, as I hadn't eaten anything at all today. My wet feet echoed as I hopped up the stairs, and I heard Valerie groan.

"Damn it, Taissa! Getting my floors wet." she hissed. I rolled my eyes.

When I got to Amaya's bedroom door, loud music was playing. I didn't recognize who it was, but I could easily tell it was rock. I pounded on her door.

"Amaya," I called, "Wanna come swim with us?"

No response.

"Amaya!" I banged harder on her door. My hand started to ache.

No response.

A sickening feeling filled my stomach as I twisted the doorknob, opened the door, and made my way inside. The first thing I saw was Amaya sprawled out on her bed. She must have had a late night, or something, even though it was late into the afternoon. I went to her radio, and turned it off. As I made my way towards her unconscious body, I noticed her anti-depressant pill bottle on her bed, completely empty. That's when my heart stopped.

I grabbed Amaya by the shoulders, and shook her. When she didn't wake up, I shook her again. I felt something wet on my legs, and looked down. Something sticky and red. Blood. I painstakingly focused on Amaya's wrists, which were sliced open, and spilling blood all over the place. I need a cigarette. I need a cigarette. But, I quit.

"Amaya!" I screamed, shaking her more. Her whole body was limp. "Someone help me! Please!" I heard Valerie running up the stairs, as the whole house shook. She burst through the door, and her face was white. Poor Valerie. That's the look that was on my parents face when they found me like this, on more than one occasion. I suddenly felt bad for what I had put them through.

"Oh my god, no!" Tears streamed down her cheeks, realizing what had happened to her daughter. She pulled her cell phone out of her pocket, and dialed 9-1-1. "Hello, please, help me! My daughter, she needs help. I think she tried to commit suicide. No, I do not know if she's alive! Just get the hell here! She's the only person I have left in my life!" Valerie cried. She kept screaming orders into the phone, demanding them to get here now. My hands never left Amaya's shoulders, not until the EMT's got there.

"Amaya!" I screamed to her, as they pulled her away on the gurney. Valerie went with them, and demanded that I stay here. I obeyed her rules, and stayed. Evan was confused, because he was in the dark about it all. I sent him home, because I wanted to be alone at this time.

When I got to my room, I couldn't control the tears. I let them flow, until I couldn't cry any longer. That's when I got the call from Valerie. I hoped it was a good one. It wasn't.

Quick A/N~

I hate writing sad chapters like this. Sadly, this won't be the last one in this book, which, is about only 5 more chapters. Any thoughts about this chapter? Let me know in the comments.
