Chasing hearts

~Chapter One~ Vanessa's POV

I woke up with the sun shining threw the window of my apartment I was a bit dazed I reached under my pillow to find my phone I had three missed calls from work I looked at the time 11:45 a.m " No no no! Im late again!" I rushed out of the covers to get dressed for work I put on my uniform for petsmart I grab my phone and shoved it in my back pocket I headed to the bathroom to do my morning routine I brushed out my long black hair, brushed my teeth, then applied a little bit of foundation to my face then I put on my eyeliner. I rushed out of the bathroom and got my purse, I exited the apartment locking the door behind me. I ran across the empty street and started jogging when I reached the sidewalk I was breathless I got to the front door of petsmart my anxiety started to kick in I knew my boss was gonna be mad so I took in a deep breath and walked inside. " Yo Vanny! Your late again!" I heard my co worker Josh say to me when I walked in " I know my alarm didnt go off Im gonna be in so much trouble." I say between breaths, " I saw the boss this morning she was looking for you she looked pretty mad. " Josh replied with a sorrowed expression. I just rolled my eyes and walked away to the back room to meet the one and only my bitch of a boss. " Vanessa I need to speak to you in my office now. " I slowly follow behind her not wanting to look her in the eyes. We got in her office and took a seat, all I could do was stare at my feet waiting to get yelled at. " This is the third time this week you've been late you were suppose to be here three hours ago care to explain? " she says in a nasty voice " I must have forgotten to set my alarm clock I apologize ma'am. " I said while looking up from my feet " That seems to be a common excuse coming from you, your twenty years old having a job takes responsibility to be on time. " she says peering down at me threw her glasses. " Im sorry ma'am it wont happen again you have my word" I say looking down at my feet hopeing for forgiveness "Your right it wont happen again because Im letting you go Im sorry but it is not working out here for you. " my heart dropped when I heard that I was almost speechless " Please I-I really need this job " I pleaded fighting back tears "Then you should have worked harder Im sorry but Im gonna have to ask you to leave." I stood up from my chair and exited I walked out of the store and started walking across the empty street a tear rolled down my face I swiped at it and kept walking all the way back to my apartment before going in I went to check the mail I grabbed my mail and headed to my place when I got in I kicked off my shoes then snatched my shirt uniform off and sat on my couch and began to sob " whats wrong with me" is all I could say to myself I sat there and sobbed at what seemed like hours I finally got up and decided to take a shower..
