16. Go downhill

"Jin hyung, am I late?"

Taehyung asked urgently as he rushed into Jin's Vet clinic. Taehyung's tears soon filled his eyes as he saw Tan, who was in Jin's arms, whining at him as if begging to him for hold him.

"Tan-ah!"

"You're not late. Can you hold him for a while and calm him down? He already senses that he is about to go through something big. They are very sensitive..."

Just like you...  Looking at Taehyung hugging Tan tightly in his arms and rubbing his face in his fur, Jin swallowed the last words and smiled softly.

After an unexpected quarrel with Jungkook, Taehyung spent the whole weekend confined to his room. He texted Hoseok that he had a lot of homework, also Jimin called him several times, but he made an excuse that he was busy and asked him to call later. Although he knew that Hoseok and Jimin would be waiting for his visit, he didn't want to face anyone at that time. What Jungkook said to him that day was not something that could be taken lightly like a joke. Even after the weekend, he was still trying not to run into Jungkook, and he thought that Jungkook would be no different from him.

And Taehyung, who had been confined to his room except for class time, was sincerely happy to hear the sudden news of Tan's surgery from Jin. After suffering from depression and stress for several days, he seemed to be able to barely breathe.

"Jin hyung, are you sure? Is Tan good enough to endure the surgery? Really?"

"Of course. I'm sure he'll hold up just fine."

Jin smiled as he caressed Tan's back who put his nose between Taehyung's armpit and burrowed into his arms as if he were hiding. Then, facing Taehyung's face, Jin frowned slightly, feeling that he had visibly lost weight.

"What's wrong with you?"

"Huh? Humm... nothing."

"Didn't you get a rash?"

"No-"

Taehyung was a little startled for a moment. It was surprising that Jin noticed his condition, but it was also very surprising that he did not have an allergic reaction even in this situation. Wasn't the stress just a problem?  Taehyung shivered weakly.

What is he hiding? Jin hid a sigh with a faint smile.

"Now we will anesthetize him. We will do our best, so please be patient and pray for him."

Jin said softly, making a gesture as if asking Taehyung to hand Tan. Taehyung made Tan face him and pressed their foreheads together.

"Tan, don't worry. You'll be healthy after sleeping for a while. Daddy's gonna waiting for you here, don't be scared. Okay?"

Taehyung muttered as if to reassure himself. It wasn't that he didn't trust Jin. It was just... the fact that such a small and fragile Yeontan had to go through such a difficult situation only made him feel guilty and upset. Jin explained that Yeontan would be put under sleep anesthesia and that the total operation time would be around 3-4 hours. Jin asked him to wait at Hoseok's cafe, but Taehyung stubbornly refused. Taehyung wanted to be close to Yeontan while he was undergoing surgery, and it hurt him so much that that was all he could do for his little baby right now.

like that, Taehyung nervously sat in the waiting room, praying that Yeontan's surgery would be successful.

"So you're saying that Yeontan is undergoing surgery right now?"

While waiting for Jungkook to come out after class, Yoongi, who happened to meet Jimin and heard about Yeontan's surgery, couldn't help but resent Jungkook. He could sense that something had happened between Jungkook and Taehyung. And it didn't seem to be the same kind of thing as Jungkook's heartache towards Taehyung, as it used to be. It was revealed just by looking at Taehyung's attitude toward Jungkook. Yoongi felt sorry for Taehyung. In this place, the only people Taehyung can rely on are Jimin and Jungkook, so why doesn't Jungkook know that?  Isn't it Jungkook who brought Taehyung here as if the best place in the world was next to him?  Yoongi sighed in disappointment.
