Daniella's POV
Dante De La Cruz is most carefree man in the world. In his world, consequences don't exist. He lives to have fun and if it's not fun he leaves it alone. No winder it did not work out with my mother. She's not fun!
The reason I have chosen him and not my mother is because he will not make a fuss. My only problem is that Izzy will likely come up. I don't want that! Bruce and I have suffered enough strain. We can't handle another and stay together!
I have moved away from Bruce to call him. We haven't spoken in ight years. How do I start a conversation with someone I haven't spoken to in eight years?
It's ringing. Any second now he will answer and there will br no going back. Bruce is buying us ice cream from a little gelato shop. Seville is beautiful.
"Hello." His voice came through. I froze. I hanged up.
"Come on Dani!" I reprimanded myself and I called again.
"Hello?" He answered.
"Hi daddy. It's Dani."
"Dani... Daniella!" He sounds happy. "My little miss-know-it-all! What a sweet surprise!"
"I'm in Seville. I want to see you."
"Right now mija? Because I'm a little busy-"
"Right now. I'm not here long. I'll text you my address. Come alone." I hanged up.
Bruce brought two cups of ice cream. I love pistacchio. He loves chocolate. "Well? Has he responded?"
"My father? Yes. I'm just texting him the address." I texted him a different address where I must meet him alone first. I have things to say that I cannot say in front of Bruce. "Done."
He's quiet.
I reached across the table to place my hand on his. He smiled fleetingly. "I'm all right. Are you?"
"Yes, why would you ask?"
"Because of that night outside the police station. It wasn't supposed to happen."
"I dint regret anything Bruce. I don't regret it because it is supposed to happen when two people are in love. We are in love. It's okay to love me that way. I don't care about laws. I care about how we both feel. Don't you love it?"
"I love it Dani. I love it too much. I'm uh... thinking tonight we could."
"It sounds like a date. Can you excuse me please? I'll run to the bathroom."
I hurried off. He's here. He's behind the ice cream parlor at the drive through.
Dante De La Cruz is a tall lean man. He wears his hair in a ponytail and has tattoos on his whole right arm. His brown eyes are always vibrant with life. His laughter is the most infectious thing anyone can experience. Other than being absent in my life and always choosing Izzy over me, I dint have a problem with him.
"Daddy." I whispered. It's such a strange thing to say to him. I will happily call Bruce daddy. It's so easy. But this is not easy. I cleared my throat when I got closer. "Mr De La Cruz?"
He looked at me at once. His face broke into a big smile. "Daniella!" He wrapped his arms around me without asking. He filled my cheek with kisses. "Look at you! You're all grown up!"
"I am. Haven't you been seeing Izzy? It's the same thing."
"No it's not." He cringed. "She's more busty than you are. What are you doing in Seville?"
"I'm here with someone who wants to meet you. Before I tell you more I have a few things to say. First and foremost, you owe me for being absent from my life! You owe me for making me live hand to mouth! You owe me for all these daddy issues I have! Don't you agree that you owe me?"
