Chapter 20: Threats

Bruce's POV
I didn't sleep a wink after the proposal party. I went out, got high and spent the day in Tribeca. The only reason I'm outside is because I'm meeting up with Dani to talk about this hacking matter.

I keep going back to the conversation I had with Keira. She told me not to propose if I wasn't sure yet I went ahead and put a diamond ring on Daniella's finger.

I think I have lost my mind and my good senses. I have proposed to s seventeen year old girl and I'm not even sure if I will marry her. She is keeping a big secret and I'm not sure I can just overlook it.

Her lies are making me doubt everything about her. I have been waiting for Miss Wu to show up. After speaking to her father, I decided I want to meet her mother as well. She passes along this street like clockwork. I have to speak to her.

"Miss Wu." I approached her. "Good evening."

She's short, about 5ft at most. She has a frown on her face. I can't see any resemblance to Dani except for the eyes. "What do you want?"

She's snappy.

"My name is Bruce. Can we talk?"

She stared at my hand and didn't shake it. "What about?"

"Dani." Her eyes widened with realization. I placed my hand on the upper part of her back. "Please. Let me buy you coffee."

I led her into the closest restaurant. We sat at the edge near the windows. The waiter came by and we both ordered black coffee no sugar. She added a dessert.

"So you are the one she's been sneaking around with. I'm shocked. I expected a boy. Not a man."

I stared into my cup. I am not here for her approval. I just want to get the formality out of the way because it's the proper thing to do.

"I should have met you much earlier. For that, I apologize."

She leaned forward. "Do you have a fetish for little girls?"

Before Dani, I have been around grown women with legal age. I don't know how I got tangled up with Dani but it just happened. My heart got involved and now I can't change anything.

"Just for yours." I answered. The waiter returned with our orders. I thanked him. As soon as he left I continued. "I love your daughter."

"I am not certain how to respond. But I'm certain that it was disrespectful of you to court her without meeting me first. That is the first thing you should have done. You overlooked me. You carried on an illicit relationship with my underage daughter. And now you're trying to be respectable. I don't buy into it."

She sipped her coffee.

"I understand your disappointment."

"You will understand it when you have children and they disregard you in these matters!" She told me sharply.

"I asked her father for her hand in marriage."

"He's not a father. He's a sperm donor." This woman is something else. "I raised Dani, not Dante. I have been through everything with her and I can't forgive how you handled this. In fact, I do not approve. End it."

"Miss Wu, with all due respect, I'm not here to ask for your permission. That ship already sailed. I'm not the one who overlooked you. Your own daughter kept me a secret from you. Take this matter up with her."

"How old are you?"

"Thirty two."

"She's seventeen! If you do not end this relationship, I will go to the police and tell them you are abusing my underage daughter."
