"I can tell you wanna say something, Shortcake," Connor mumbled.

Serena smiled and ran the tips of her fingers through the nape of his neck, "I just want you to know that you're not off the hook."

"Off the hook?" He raised an eyebrow.

"From what happened at the game."

"Oh."

"Yeah oh," Serena leveled an unimpressed look his way. They weren't under the safety of darkness anymore, and it was obvious she needed to talk about it. "I'm just going to say my piece about it and you'll listen, that's it okay?"

Connor nodded and let an uneasy expression mold his tense face. He knew this had been coming, a woman like Serena wouldn't just sit by and forgive mindlessly. She would make sure you burned, and that was one of the things he liked about her.

"You're a fucking idiot. Now to everyone watching Liam swung first, but you threw the first punch. Acting the way you did, not only jeopardized Liam's composure but also the rest of your team. It was so disgustingly selfish that I could barely watch. You're a lot of things Connor Deluca, I've questioned your morals countless times. But one thing I never thought you'd do was hurt your team like that."

Connor winced, burn she did.

"Not only just Liam, I wish you could have seen the horrified faces of your teammates. I'm to blame too, I know that. But I'm my own person, and I chose who and what I want in my life. Not you or Liam. Understand?"

He nodded, and even though her words were harsh, she delivered them calmly. Somehow it made them sting more, "I do. And, for what it's worth, I'm sorry. To you and-" Connor sighed, forcing the words up like vomit, "Liam. But that doesn't mean I like him."

"You don't have to like him, but you don't get to act like a baby because of it. I really like not fighting with you, never thought I'd say that." Serena offered a sideways smile, it pulled down on Connor's stomach and eased the tension in the air. She leaned forward, slowly draping her arms around his neck while her lips grazed his, "So let's keep it that way."

"Sounds good to me, Shortcake."

"But you're still on probation, so best behavior Connor." Serena raised a finger at him along with one of her brows.

"Aren't I always?" He smiled with a mischievous edge wetting his lips, he pressed that smirk against her cheek and kissed her there. Serena leveled an unimpressed look at him when he pulled back. It made him laugh lowly, keeping his face close to hers.

His body had been purring with heat since she slipped on his jersey, something about seeing her skate around with his last name on her back made his heart pulse in his chest. A permanent grin plastered to his face. Holding her, touching her, Connor was accessing every ounce of his self-control to not take his touches further.
