"Okay, that is the last of the boxes." Connor was huffing as he walked into the entrance of his home, two cardboard boxes piled on top of the other. He set them down with a thud, bracing a hand on his lower back once he leaned up.
Serena turned and stood up from the box of books she was sorting, surrounded by even more boxes that needed sorting. She took in the sight of Connors's exhausted, slightly sweaty state and chuckled.
"Do you regret asking me to move in yet?" A gentle smile filled her peaceful face. She and Connor had been officially dating for the past three months. And on month two, she was practically living in his house already. She even took Mayo over there so he wouldn't get lonely.
At that point, asking her to move in officially was out of formality. Nevertheless, it made her ecstatic. She agreed, hired a real estate agent to sell her house, and started moving everything over.
Connor let a smirk crack his face, "The only thing I regret is not having a library room in my house when I moved in; it would've saved me from having this one built." He motioned around to the room they were standing in.
At that exact moment, Serena took in a deep breath of mahogany. He had one of the vacant rooms in his house redesigned to be the library of her dreams. Even though she told him he didn't have to, Connor did as Connor does and had it done anyway. He had beautiful shelves of deep chocolate mahogany lined nearly every wall and some free-standing shelves, creating a small maze of space for her vast book collection.
She couldn't say how floored she was that he had done all this for her. Somehow, Connor had hopped into her mind and plucked the perfect room out for her. The perfect life, and gave it to her.
He even added a small sitting nook by the window, and as her eyes moved over to the cushioned seat beneath the glass, her face softened with a wistful grin. She remembered the night they sat in the nook and opened up to each other for the first time. These memories seemed far away, but only because they had spent so much time filling the space between these moments with new ones.
She turned to him and narrowed a playful glare in his direction, "I told you you didn't have to do all that. I would've found a place for my books, sold some maybe."
Connor breathed as he looked around the large room until his unimpressed gaze landed back on hers. Boxes of books covered nearly every square inch of the floor, "Is that so?"
Serena knew she couldn't win this one. She pushed her hands into his chest and rolled her eyes. However, the smile on her face did little to hide her happiness.
Connor's hands came up and grabbed her wrist, holding them on his warm chest before she could complete her playful shove. His face grew sly with the lopsided smirk he had perfected over the years, his fingers snaking tighter around her wrists.
