Serena's morning consisted of her hands and knees buried in the dirt and the sun shining down on her hunched-over back. That sounds unpleasant to most but Serena was precisely in her element. She got up early in the morning to plant flowers and foliage around the now-cleaned greenhouse, too excited to wait till noon.
Accompanied only by the chirping robins and the sound of her hands moving on the earth, she hummed gently to herself. The outside was nearly finished now, bright flowers sat in tidy rows along the circumference of the greenhouse. The only part that needed to be finished now was the broken glass panes being changed.
"Well, someone has been busy."
The scratchy voice behind her made Serena jump slightly, although she instantly knew who it was. Turning around, she looked up to Connor who stood behind her admiring the flowers she just planted.
"Where did you get all these plants from?" He added while looking impossibly good. He was wearing a tight grey tank top and a pair of black basketball shorts. Her eyes dragged down his body, being drawn to his chiseled and thick legs like a moth to a flame.
She shifted to face him still on her knees, squinting back from the sun. Connor noticed, chuckling at her struggle before leaning slightly to the right and blocking the harsh rays. His shadow washed over her and she opened her eyes fully once she was completely washed in his figure.
"I had some in my backyard, they needed to be planted soon anyways, they were outgrowing their pots," Serena replied, placing her dirt-covered gloves next to her.
"It looks good," He smirked and looked all over her from where she knelt, making her question exactly what he was complimenting. His gaze felt hot like the sun's kiss, maybe even hotter with the unspoken words swirling in his eyes.
Taking one hand from his pocket, She watched as his fingers reached for her chin. "You're a mess, you got dirt all on your face." He tickled his fingers from her chin down her jawline, the feathery touches made her sigh and lean forward closer to him. She felt enticed by his possessive grazes and the smell of his cologne. His hand swept under her chin after he brushed off the specs of earth, cradling it in his palm. Her head almost seemed unnaturally small in his large calloused grip.
"Have you come to help or touch me?" Serena breathed, she was now almost kneeling fully up on her knees. Her whole body and essence arched in an effort to get closer to him. Her heart trembled in her chest, begging for him to choose the latter.
A soft smirk spread across his lips, a playful jolt flashing there that she so fondly recognized, "I'm just enjoying the view, shortcake." He winked making her heart pound in her abdomen. She narrowed an equally light glare at him.
Connor laughed and dropped his hand, immediately she missed his strong fingers floating along her soft face. Something about the way his callouses scratched and his fingers squeezed her cheeks felt so good, felt like she could fall asleep with him holding her. It made her lungs burn and her hands clench.
