Serena's fingers tapped away at her keyboard, the muddled snap of the buttons was the only thing filling the small space of her office. The excess overflowing passion that ruptured between her and Connor was used as fodder for her writing.
The words flowed so easily with it, inspiration felt like a never-ending supply, and her fingers tapped rapidly. A smile rested on her face, she found her writing started to emulate her life. Usually, Serena disconnected the two and ran away to a world vastly different than hers.
But now, she was leaning into herself, blurring the line between Serena and Skylyn instead of drawing it. She was writing the two main characters now, making a shift between them, drawing them closer.
His hand brushed hers.
Looking at her, His eyes softened and his heart beat slower.
Their steps fell into a rhythm beside each other
Maybe it was because things were going fairly smoothly in her life, but she was almost done with her book. It was Friday now, and she was submitting more chapters than required, and on time. A rare occurrence for her.
The whole week, She and Connor had been making up stupid excuses to go and knock on each other's door. They'd linger on the porch, entertaining their stupid excuses for a few minutes while knowing full well it was all bullshit. Then someone would slip, a smile would crack too wide, or someone would close the space just enough, and they'd be tangled up in each other.
That was their routine this past week, and it left her feeling light and wispy. Serena felt like air, she felt Connor all around her. The time she was spending with him was tightening that rope around them, pulling them closer. What surprised her was she liked the feelings fluttering around in her chest more than it scared her.
Serena was getting lost in the flow of words again when her phone pinged, it seemed like enough reason to stop for the afternoon. She cleared her throat, laced her fingers together, and pulled them gently sounding off a series of cracks from her nimble bones.
She picked up her phone, trying her best to ignore the rush of heat to her face and the pounding of her heart. She expected to see Connor's icon pop up on the screen, texting her something stupid like "do you have any sugar I can borrow?" but instead, the name that was shown there made her still, and that infectious smile melt right off her lips.
Liam's name blinked there on her fluorescent screen, and she blinked a few times back at him. It just now occurred to her that she hadn't thought about him in a week. Connor was the only thing swirling around her head, his hands and kisses brushed a seemingly permanent stain of himself on her mind.
She blew out a strained breath and unlocked her phone.
Liam: Hey, are you free at all today? I think we should talk.
