Oh Alice you have no Idea how pleased I am to see the Sun

261 5 9

The weather and other things, really Alice.

282 It has rained and rained

For days and days

Coursing worries and worries

For so many so many

For these first months of this year

It has rained as much as a half a year.

Not only you Alice be drowning in tears,

But climate change has course us too

To be swimming in tears, and many fears.

283 Golden light covers the horizon

Fingers spread warmth

Be prepared for a nice garden

Green as green and all washed clean

You have hidden your face so long now

I am sure you have forgotten

(284 Yes Alice the garden is just out that door,

So here is the key now off you go

Out there to play with only your imagination as companion.

Or have our young forgotten how to do

Just this?  Too many things, Alice too many toys

And when they grow up fear holds them more.)

285 Cheery faces now greet this morning

I can hear the birds singing calling

Welcoming the sun’s spreading light

Gone are fears of the night

See a shaft of glistering air

Dancing on puddles and grey wet roads everywhere

(286 I am not a grandmother yet,

but if I am blessed as one

I know what I will do

Play with those little ones

and read them many a good book

Sing them songs and more do as they do.)

287 Now that is out of the way how do you

Fit Alice dear to today’s six little poems?

Who are you Alice?

And how can a child answer that question?

All she could say was

Who are you? To that strange apparition,

(A smoking blue caterpillar, Alice repeated the question” who are you?”

But in a clever way, " You know one day a butterfly you will be, don't you?

Oh Alice you are so smart.)

288 Does anyone young know who they are?

The other question that is asked, “What do you wish to be?”

Now Alice at eight did you know your destiny?

Only a genius could answer in any form understood

Without a question first turned to the questioner

Not nonsense Alice not at all, just childhood.

289 Now let us start at that incredible fall

You imagined falling for what seemed like forever

Down on through the middle of the Earth

To land in no other place but Australia or New Zealand

So it was from this little story came the understanding

Of Australia being that place “down under” and all upside down.

(Alice we can now blame you for us acting like “Mad Hatters” and just a pack of cards.)
