Thirty Three

Thankfully, Morpheus was engrossed in what he was doing enough for me to keep my distance off him when Larhaenya reached out.

Through her, I found out that a conspiracy is brewing among Desire and Despair against Dream. She didn't explain it and I didn't bother asking further. I know better than to meddle with three Endless siblings and their chosen endeavors. But I cannot promise I won't do something to protect Morpheus later on when they make their move. I am quite cross with him for how he forbade me to venture in the waking world to keep an eye on Rose myself instead of Matthew but I still care for him a lot.

Moreover, Larhaenya also talked about The Corinthian and his mishaps among certain humans and his keen interest in Rose Walker. So he's heard of her and is already making his moves. Corin hasn't changed.

What I wondered about was Larhaenya's possible interest in Corin. Unfortunately, I can't ask about it as of now as there are more important matters for me to care about.

Morpheus was right after all. Rose, being a vortex, does attract the strays nightmares though it was only Corin who showed interest first and we haven't find out where Gault and Fiddler's Green wandered off to yet.

Larhaenya, the White Witch, left me with words of caution which states that I must never meddle or tamper in the path that the Fates laid for Rose. Two powerful phenomena of dreams must never collide in any way possible. The risk is too great. It might spark that unraveling she once spoke of and my role as the Sandman's Dream. I suspect it was the reason why Morpheus forbade me to leave the realm to watch the Vortex though he'd given me no explanation at all.

I do not want to stir anything that would inflict unpleasantries in the Dreaming and waking world, which is why I had accepted my defeat and opted to behave myself. On that note, I decided to pay Lucienne a visit in the library one afternoon.

I found her occupying a table filled with history of dreams and dreamers' books. Matthew was there as well, perched upon one end of the table.

"There she is. Rose Walker. 21 years of age." Lucienne read out loud from the page of the book she was holding just as I got close enough to join them.

A heavy sigh escaped my lips, which Matthew heard, as I sat across Lucienne.

"Something wrong, Lady Kat?" Matthew asked, pinning the attention to me.

"No, not really," I said, flashing a smile of reassurance. "I guess fate's toying with me again, is all. I was told not to meddle with this whole Rose Walker business and I agree. Yet, I've come to join the talk you lot are having about her," I chuckled, shaking my head. "Please, do not let me interrupt. I swear to only listen."

Lucienne smiled back and went on sharing information to us. "Mother, deceased. Father, deceased."

"Poor kid." Matthew remarked.

"She did say she was alone during one time we met, not long ago." I said, finding sense on such things now.

"There is a brother, Jed Walker. And someone else." Lucienne continued, brows furrowed in confusion like me.

"Someone else? Who?"

Merv stormed in the room and cut our on-going discussion. He stood before us, grimacing and crossing his arms over his chest. "Is it true?" He asked, switching his glance from me to Lucienne - who took her specs off and looks at him too.

"Yes. The plans for the new celestarium have been approved." Lucienne shifted her eyes back to the book then stood and handed Merv a rolled parchment containing the plan she spoke of.
