Katherine's POV

After showing me my room, Theo went to attend to his phone call, leaving me in a spacious bedroom- bigger than my home. I stepped inside, closed the door behind me before exploring my room for the upcoming days. The bed was a king size bed, it looked extremely comfortable but i knew best than to get used to this. This room was far from being to my liking, it was way too luxurious. It looked like i could call this home itself. The only thing missing was a kitchen. There was a door leading to the bathroom which was big and luxurious as well.

As i closed the door of the bathroom after exploring, i felt a presence behind me. I'd recognise that perfume miles away. Question is, what was he doing in my room? Granted, it is his house but like, privacy?

Sighing, i turned around, only to find him looking very much comfortable on the couch near the window. "What are you doing here?"

Not receiving a reply from, i walked closer and noticed a file in his hands. "You want to see what's on this file, katherine?" He questioned, following my eyes to the file. I furrowed my eyebrow in confusion. Why would he ask me if i want to see what was on a file he was holding? It was not any of my business, was it? "I know what you are thinking." He spoke, standing up and took a step closer to me, "What am i doing here, why did i just ask you if you want to know what this file contains."

Not giving me a chance to reply, he gave me the file. "You know how everyone has information on them? The place they were born, their name, their address, their parents, their siblings and so on?"

"Yeah?" I replied, not exactly understanding where he is going with this.

"Well, this is suppose to be your file." He handed over the file to me. Taking it from his grasp, i opened it only to be met with blank pages. Of course. "And as you can see, it's empty. No mentions of parents, no place of birth, nothing."

Well, obviously. A mid wife helped my mom give birth to me back home, in her bed. We don't do papers or anything of sort there. We don't records of newborns. I am not surprised it's like i don't exist- im not supposed to exist. How do i explain this to him without sounding like a complete psychopath? He probably won't even believe me.

"Maybe you need to dig deeper?" I suggested, taking a step backwards. "Don't play fucking dumb with me, Katherine." He snapped, getting closer to me. "Who are you?"

"I didn't lie about who i am." I stated, using the same tone as he did. "I do however, appreciate my privacy. I didn’t realise i needed to tell you the story of my life upon our first meeting itself. I hardly know you.”

“In this life, we have to do background checks on people we know.” He explained, “For all i know, you could be a spy. And you haven’t given me any reason to think otherwise.”

I snorted, “You think im a spy?”

“Maybe.” He shrugged, “Im trying to trust you here, Katherine. But how am i suppose to do that when you don’t exist in the eyes of the world? Are you running away from someone?”

“It’s complicated.” I sighed, looking away from him. “You probably won’t even believe me.”

“Try me, sweetheart.” He said softly, “Don’t give me a reason to kill you.”

“I can’t tell you everything-” I met his eyes before continuing, “But im asking you to give me time. I promise you i am not a spy or your enemy.”

He sighed, “Fine.” He turned his back on me, about to leave when he stopped, “Don’t do anything which will result in your death. There’s your phone on your bed along with a suitcase which contains all your clothes if you haven’t realised it yet.”

Indeed there was my phone and suitcase on the bed. Once he left, i rushed to the bed, taking my phone only to be greeted with a shitload of messages and calls from Sara. All of them are telling me to call her, asking if everything is fine. Sighing, i dialed her number and she instantly answered the call.

“Oh my god, Katherine.” She sounded exasperated, “You scared the shit out of me. Why do you have a phone if you are not going to reply to my texts or calls?”

“I fell asleep. My phone was dead.” The lies rolled off my tongue perfectly.

“Jesus fucking christ.” She cussed, “I was so close from bursting the door of your apartment just to check whether you were alive or not.”

“I didn’t mean to worry you.” I stated truthfully. I wanted to tell her how im being held against my will in a billionaire’s house but i knew how much it could endanger her. The right thing to do here is keep her away from Asher and whatever this life is. “Im going back home for a while. I don’t know when i will be back.” I said, “We’ll keep in touch.”

“Oh.” I could almost see the frown on her face right now. “I’ll miss-” She was cut off by the all too familiar voice of her mother yelling her name, “I’ll miss you. Gotta run, Talk later.” With that, she ended the call.

I was suddenly reminded by the noises my stomach started to make just how hungry i was. Groaning to myself, i opened the door of my room, stepped outside and looked at the long ass stairs which led downstairs where the kitchen had to be situated. “Going somewhere?”, Bash jump scared me. I rolled my eyes at him as he smirked, satisfied.

“The kitchen?” I asked. A smile took over his features before he asked me to follow him. We descended the stairs which never seemed to end. “You’ll get used to it.” He stated, as if he could read my mind. Once downstairs, we passed the living room and there was the kitchen.
