Katherine's POV
It has already been two weeks since i got kidnapped; two weeks since i saw my parents and my little brother. Aaron is a delight, i enjoy spending time with him and during those past few days, we bonded really well.
I was currently in the bakery with Sara. I did not tell her the truth about being kidnapped, instead, i just continued with the lie. I introduced her to my parents whom she found weird due to their lack of words. I cannot blame her for judging so, my parents despise outsiders.
Speaking of them, they have been saying in the hotel since they got here. I would have invited them to live in my apartment but it would be too small for their liking, not like there's enough space either.
"Your parents are nice people nonetheless." Sara remarked with a grin, "Your little brother is so adorable. I cannot believe you never told me about him."
"I forgot." I lied again. How do i tell her that i wasn't aware of my own brother's birth without sounding weird; anything but normal?
She furrowed her brow at my answer. "Sure." Clearly not believing me. I can't blame her for that. Someone just doesn't forget to tell her best friend about her baby brother.
"I know you lie to me, Katherine." Her smile didn't quite reach her eyes, her lips formed a thin line. "I know you have secrets of your own, im not pushing you. I never pushed you. I have given you time, my trust, support, everything. Just like now, i am giving you time to trust me."
"I trust you." I stated. I really trusted her but my life is way too complicated and she could be in danger, anytime.
"Maybe but you are not one to open up about your past, are you?" She smiled again, "I understand. Not everyone has a fairytale past but just know that i am here for you and i will always be here for you no matter what kind of monsters you have fought back then."
I wanted to ask her How she would react when i tell her that i was the monster but i held myself. I would probably scare the shit out of her and lose her friendship for good.
"You're right." I responded. "I did lie to you, i have lied to you and i still do about certain things but it is not because i don't trust you." I explained as she listened carefully, "And you were right about having difficulties to speak regarding my past. It has nothing to do with trust. Im just trying to protect you."
"I get it." She stated, sipping her milkshake, a smile forming on her lips before adding, "It's whenever you want."
She had no idea how much i appreciated her at this point. She is understanding and the best best friend anyone could ever ask for.
After this heartfelt conversation, we both drank our milkshakes and talked about everything else that is not related to my life. We then parted ways, she had to go home and i had to go see my parents.
The receptionist smiled at me in acknowledgement upon my arrival. She has already been used to seeing me and i, her. I went to my parents hotel room and instantly became uneasy when they didn't answer after the third knock.
I opened the door slowly before stepping inside. The feeling of uneasiness and worry washed over me once I saw the state their room was in. It was thrashed, the vase which was sitting on the drawer near the TV now found itself in several piece scattered on the floor. "Shit." I cursed before rushing to my brother's room only to find him sleeping. I almost chuckled at the thought of him sleeping through whatever happened.
Judging by the thrashed place, my parents did not go without a fight. Either they were knocked down or sedated or held at gun point.
I rushed to my brother's side before dialing Jason's number. Where the fuck was him when my parents needed him? So much for fucking protection.
"Katherine?" He answered at the first ring itself. "Everything alright?"
"Where are you?" I asked, straight to the point.
"At some place called a cinema." He said in a low voice before adding, "It's crazy how dark it is in here and im not even supposed to be talking to you. Can we text?"
I would have laugh if i wasn't so concerned and worried about my parents. "No. My parents are missing."
"What do you mean your parents are missing?" He repeated my question before continuing, "Hold on. Let me go outside."
"As in they have been kidnapped." I sighed, "I came to see them and their place was upside down. Aaron was sleeping."
"Oh fuck." He cursed, his voice becoming serious. "Do not move. Im coming there right now."
I ended the phone call and turned my attention back on my sleeping brother. I knew i couldn't watch over him and find my parents at the same time and the only person i trusted enough to look after him was Sara.
I returned back to the thrashed living room, hoping to find something which indicated anything at this point. Just as I was about to give up after looking everywhere and not finding a thing, my eyes fell on a piece of paper placed on the table. How could i have missed it? I was so busy looking for something amongst the mess that i didn't think to look elsewhere.
I carefully lifted the piece of paper and read what was written on it. "He is next, Katherine" was written in a rushed handwriting. Whoever wrote this knew i would be the one finding it and didn't bother writing a name for the "He"
Mentioned because he knew i would know whom he was talking about. Aaron."Fuck fuck fuck." I cursed, my hand finding its way onto my head. "Shit."
I took out my phone and dialed Sara's number who answered instantly."Hey. Miss me already?" She teased. "How may i be of service?"
"I need your help." I said in a serious tone. "Something happened to my parents. Im sending you an address, can you come here as soon as possible?"
"Oh my god." She breathed, toning down her excitement of earlier after noticing my tone. "Im on my way."
