"Ah." His voice sounded real familiar but I couldn't quite put my finger on who it was. We couldn't see his face given how far we were standing. Only his figure. "Asher and Katherine, Finally. After all these months."

"Where is our parents?" I asked, getting straight to the point. We have been playing his games since we got here. I had enough, so fucking enough.

The second he stepped out of the shadows, i wished he didn't. I felt betrayed, angry, pissed, broken. Furious. That's when i knew, killing him might be hard- it would be. No fucking doubt.

"Your parents are safe." He smirked, "I would never hurt my king and queen."

As if sensing my anger, sadness and everything i was feeling, Asher's hand found mine, holding it tight. I knew better. He wanted me to think about my next step carefully and the only one i had right now was to kill him. Kill the traitor. We always kill our traitors.

"Why, Jason?" My voice was weak, i doubted he heard me. However, His chuckle proved me wrong. "Why, Katherine? Why?" He repeated my question.

"You know what we do to traitors like you. We skin them as they live and watch them burn alive." I took a step toward him, no longer wanting to hold back from gutting him. "Why would you betray my parents? Them who looked after you? Trained you? Gave you shelter? Fed you? Is this how you repay your king and queen? By backstabbing them?"

"Do not take another step closer, dear." He gestured to his guards, "you're outnumbered."

"Fucking please." I scoffed, "You have watched me trained. You know you are the one outnumbered here."

I caught a glimpse of fear in his eyes before he quickly replaced it with a sick look. "Why did i betray your parents?" He asked, knowing i want how bad i want the answer, "Your parents are becoming weak, having no longer the mind and heart needed to rule our own little messed up kingdom." He continued as i listened to him carefully, knowing where this is going, "I have only served alongside your parents because i thought given the right time and opportunity and by playing by your father's and mother's rules, they would honor my service by making me the ruler, the king, of our world one day." He took a deep breath, looking at me with hate or was it disgust? I couldn't tell. "- I didn't know your father would make his daughter the ruler one day, it was out of the question, it wasn't something we did. I was thrilled for my own selfish wants when you, A girl, was born. I knew, it was against the rules to make a daughter the sovereign, queen of our world."

It all made sense now. Why he was so eager in helping me run away when i was 15. Why he covered for me. Why he did everything he did.

"But your parents were king and queen. They make their own rules. I was happy when you told me you wanted to go to the outside world. Hell, i prayed you'd find purpose there and never come back." He smiled, sadistically, "It was all fucking amazing when you left. Your parents were even including me in their plans and everything until your brother was born." Not receiving an answer from me, he continued, "I knew then, with you gone, it would be your brother taking your place as sovereign. He would be king and i would be at his service, always a fucking servant- nothing more."

"Well, obviously," i started, "God doesn't want you to rule because he knows you lack the ability to do so. You're not a king, Jason. You'll never be king. Even if you kill me, kill my parents, end my entire bloodline," i took a step closer to him, "You will never be a fucking leader."

It was his turn to take a step closer to me, his hand found itself around my neck, barely squeezing. "Kill me, Jason. Kill our people's princess and see if they don't fucking retaliate."

He chuckled, a sick smile still on his face. His ugly face now that i can see it up close. "Half of our people share my thoughts, Katherine."

I raised a questioning brow at his statement, "Are you saying you're not the only traitor?"

"No. Im not a traitor. I just want what's best for our people and I am what's best for them." He pointed to himself, "Turns out, half of our people agree with me."

"Then they will all burn with you." I snarled as he tightened his grip around my neck before releasing it and made his way towards Asher whose presence i had almost forgotten about.

"You." He glared at Asher who had his fists clenched to his sides, restraining himself from punching him. "Your parents are part of a deal i made."

"Whatever the fuck does that mean?" Asher rolled his eyes, earning a glare from Jason. "It means, im not your enemy. Someone else is."

"The second you touched my parents you became my fucking enemy." He growled, grabbing Jason by his collar, "I swear to fucking god if you hurt them, i will remove every organ of your body and do much much worst than burning you or skinning you alive. I don't know how you do things in your world, but i can assure you, by the time i am done with you, you will be on your knees. Begging for your fucking death."

"Is that a threat?" Jason smirked, stopping his guards from interfering.

Asher laughed, a sadistic smirk on his lips. "It's a fucking promise."

Jason was scared, i could tell. He would piss his pants if it wasn't for his dignity, self respect and all. "I couldn't have kidnapped your parents- both of your parents without his help. He gave me weapons, cars and everything i needed. This guy hates you, Asher."

"Who is he?" Asher questioned, as if already having an idea who of who Jason was talking about.

Jason grinned, "I cannot tell you that but what i can tell you is that, He has some power in this world."

We ruled out the possibility of our parents' kidnappers being someone from my world because of the use of guns but we were so fucking wrong. Until now, everything we thought we knew was wrong. They were ten steps ahead of us. Always have been.

"Jason." I spoke, earning his attention, "Where the fuck are our parents?"

"You didn't think you'd attend this ball and go home with your parents, did you?" Jason smiled, "This is a game Katherine. The game of thrones and i am the one pulling all the strings. You two-" He pointed to me and Asher, "Will play by the rules and if you win, i promise you will return home with your parents."

"And how do we win said game?" Asher asked, his hand finding mine once again before Jason replied, "By killing me. It ends with my death or yours."
