My father’s Best friend, Jason, engulfed me in a hug, tears streaming down his face as he kept murmuring my name almost like he couldn’t believe i was really here. He is the only one who understood why i had to leave, why i couldn’t let this life ruin me further.

“Hey.” I hugged him back. He broke the hug, looking at me, “I missed you.”

“Why did you come here?”, i questioned, frowning at the others’ condition. “You have endangered yourselves.”

“Your father wanted you kept safe. He knew where you were this whole time, Katherine. Ever since you left, he asked us to keep an eye on you. I spoke to him on your behalf.” He stated, “We were sent here for your protection.”

Of course he knew.

“Why didn’t he ask you to bring me back home?”, I questioned, confused about this.

He sighed, “A lot have changed since you left, Katherine.” He started, “Your parents gave birth to a son.”

I almost choked upon hearing this. “A son? I have a brother?”

He just nodded, smiling. “Your parents gave birth to Rowan, your brother, a year after you left.”

A year after i left? So that would mean, he is around 5.

“And i missed all these.” That was one of these time where i felt regret for leaving but i knew, i needed to. Then, why do i feel like i fucked up?

Asher’s POV

Bash, Theo and i came back shortly after having a drink for celebration purposes. It’s sort of a tradition between us that we share a drink whenever a mission went smoothly- was a success and this one was. We successfully infiltrated the warehouse of a wannabe gang who stole from me and ended their line.

On our way home, i really hope Katherine didn’t try anything. She was indeed a girl with many secrets, secrets which i believed she would tell me given time but i couldn’t trust her. Yes, i had one of my best hackers find information on her but nothing turned up. Only her name, Katherine.

Sighing, i stepped out of the car along with Bash and Theo after the driver parked. We went directly in the house, They went to their respective rooms which i, so kindly, gave them while i went directly to check on Katherine.

I knocked at her door once, twice, even assumed she was sleeping but i knew my mind wouldn't be at peace unless im sure, unless i verified and i did. I slowly opened her door to avoid the creaking sound and wake her up if she is awake but to my surprise, Not, her bed was empty.

Not wanting to come to any conclusion this fast, i rushed downstairs, in the kitchen to see if she was here but it was empty. I quickly took out my phone from my pocket, about to dial the guard i installed outside, Jonas’s number when a guard walked to me.

“Boss.” He spoke, “I found an intruder lurking around in the basement.”

I raised my brows at this, “An intruder?”

Could it be Katherine?

“Yes.” He replied, “A girl ive never seen before in this house.”

“Where is she?” I questioned, running my hand through my hair in the process. It was fucking Katherine.

“She was standing in front of the cell of the men who broke into your house. I threw her in with them.” He said, proudly. I almost shoot this motherfucker right here but guy didn’t know about Katherine.

“Next time before you decide to throw an intruder in a fucking cell with guys we have no goddamn idea about, you tell me, you ask me.” I stated in a serious tone. “Have i made myself clear?”

He nodded, “Yes, boss.” And looked down as a sign of respect as i walked towards the basement, hoping that nothing bad happened to her down there. Only i know what kind of people are thrown in my basement. Rapists, thieves, drug dealers, only those ever messed with me and down there, their punishment is a fate worst than death itself.

As i approached the basement’s door, the guard stopped me. “Boss, i saw something i didn’t mention.” I looked at him, urging him to continue, “They exchanged a hug.”

“A hug?” I repeated, not even sure if i heard his words correctly. “Why the fuck would Katherine hug-” Then it hit me, i could be listening to their entire conversation without them knowing this instant, I will have some clarity on who she is and her connections, If she really has any, with those ninja slash assassin men.

Instead of going to the basement, i went upstairs to the surveillance room, logged into the camera’s in cell number 5 where they were currently locked in, made myself comfortable and started listening to their entire conversation.

They only stopped talking when one of them had to sleep and by the end of their conversation, to say i was surprised would be an understatement.
