Once we were done having tea, we retreated to our respective rooms. I took a shower and changed to comfortable clothes before going to check on my brother.
I slowly opened the door to avoid making those annoying creaking sounds. Upon seeing my presence, caretaker girl smiled at me. "You'll stay with him?" She asked, earning a nod from me. I didn't come here with that intention but caretaker girl was probably tired. I nodded at her earning yet another smile and a quick thanks before she closed the door and left.
I made him a promise im unable to keep, a promise im not sure I'll be able to keep. Fucking promises. I sighed, looking at his sleeping figure. So innocent, in so much danger. I suppose that's what a family who has done nothing but sinned since their arrival on earth receive as a gift from god. An innocent soul to protect. Fucking Karma, right?
And then there is Asher, a guy who gives me mixed feelings. I don't know what i feel whenever he is around me. I feel... safe, protected, happy? Whatever feelings they are, they should wait until we're no longer in danger. I don't know what i would do if i lose one of my new friends, my parents, Asher's parents or my brother.
That ball or whatever is supposed to be tomorrow night at around 5:30 pm. Whoever has planned this wasted no time. I don't know what is waiting for us in that ball- we'll be walking in there with no idea of what is waiting for us inside and we can't risk sending someone or hacking their cameras either otherwise, we could unknowingly be putting our parents at risk.
After shifting right and left on the bed, trying to find a comfortable position to sleep, i finally came to a conclusion that i won't be getting any sleep until my mind's at peace which it will not be until our parents are home safe.
Glancing at my brother, i knew he wasn't going to wake up any time soon so i decided to wander around the house a little bit, in hopes of finding a gym to relieve some stress. It was impossible for this house not to have a gym because Asher seems like the type to work out. A lot.
I closed the door quietly and went down to the kitchen to grab a bottle of water before going in my search of the gym. I walked towards the basement, chills immediately ran up my skin when i thought about what was in there- how it felt in there. Shaking my head, i walked pass it to a hallway further inside.
I haven't been to this part of the house. It wasn't my place to explore but if i do get caught, i have my excuse- looking for the gym. I stepped further inside, the silence embracing me while i did so. Every part of this house was luxurious, the ground was covered in marble tiles, frames worth probably a thousand of dollars hanged on the walls which couldn't look any whiter.
I found myself coming to an abrupt stop when a glass door was staring at me. White curtains were in front of it from the inside but it was glass nonetheless. If it wasn't for the white curtains, i would see everything on the other side. I approached the door, a frown made its way onto my face upon seeing the locks but it was quickly replaced with a mischievous smile when i remembered about the hairpin in my hair. Whatever was behind this door must have been really important considering all the rooms i have seen in this house has been unlocked. Maybe that's what earned my attention and my curiosity took over.
Should i do this? No.
Is it rude to stick my nose where it doesn't belong? Yes.
Will i regret it later? Probably.
Do i want to know what's on the other side? Yes.
And there it was. My answer.I started to fumble with the hairpin in your hand, trying to pick the lock of the the glass door. After a few tense moments, i finally heard a satisfying click and the door swung open with a creak.
I was immediately struck by the musty smell of old furniture and dust. The room is filled with antique furnishings - a four-poster bed with a faded canopy, a wooden dresser with a cracked mirror, and a threadbare armchair in the corner. However, what really caught my eye was the dozens of photographs hanging on the walls.
In each picture, there was the smiling faces of Asher and his family - parents and other people around his age- cousins, perhaps. They look happy and carefree, frozen in time. The photos are old and faded, the colors muted with age, but they still seemed to radiate warmth and love.
I was about to take a closer when i heard his voice behind him. I turned around only to be greeted with the sight of a shirtless Asher, standing in the doorway. His chiseled chest and rippling muscles in display. Realizing that i was checking him out, i quickly tried to focus on something else.
"Asher, I'm sorry," I stammered, trying to explain why im in what looks like one of his family's old room. "I was just curious about the room because it was the only one that was locked and I didn't mean to intrude."
He looked at me for a moment, his piercing eyes seeming to search your soul. Then he nodded, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips.
"It's okay," he said. "I understand curiosity. But this room has been locked for a reason. It's full of memories, but they can be painful ones. Maybe it's best if we leave them be."
I nodded in agreement, immediately feeling a sense of respect for Asher and his family. As i turned to leave, i couldn't help but steal one last glance at his impressive physique, but i quickly pushed the thought from my mind.
