Hearts Feel Like Glass

"I just..." Yuki sat across from Bakugo at the cafe. "I think it would be best if we broke up."

Yuki told Tohru that this was the plan and to expect her at her apartment later. To say Tohru was surprised Yuki was doing this was an understatement—the invisible girl broke down and cried on the phone when Yuki told her.

Yuki didn't announce this in public because she was worried about Bakugo's reaction. No, she did it because she couldn't imagine breaking up with him in their home. They'd lived together for four years—been together for seven. They were the only couple still together from high school, since Ochako and Izuku broke up two years ago.

"The hell?" Bakugo's voice was quiet.

Yuki's eyes welled and she couldn't determine if it was because of her, or if he was influencing this. "We just—we're fighting more and more Katsuki. I can't take it anymore, not when my career is on the line."

"Just quit your damn job. I make more than enough for us."

Yuki scoffed. He completely missed the point! He'd tell her to quit? What about him? Why shouldn't he quit?

"What?" His eyes narrowed. "Your job's more important than me?"

"No."

"Then what? I have a stable income. Quit."

Yuki hissed. "We're not. I can't just quit my job, Katsuki! I'm so close to making a breakthrough and—"

"So your job is more important than me?"

"What about you?" Yuki snapped. "Why don't you quit your job?"

Bakugo scoffed. "We couldn't live off of your check."

"We could. Very easily we could. We'd have to move out of the apartment and go somewhere else but there's so many guys who support whole families on the team."

"So I quit being a hero?"

"Yeah."

"And you'll drop the undercover work?"

"Really?" Yuki said incredulously.

Bakugo shook his head. "I'm not quitting my job if it means I can't bail you out."

"I won't need you to—you know what, whatever. We're never getting anywhere with this conversation. Just...I think the best thing for us is to break up. Our relationship has gone to shit over the last year and I don't see it getting any better."

"No."

"You can't just say no, Katsuki."

He glared at her. Who did this weak girl think she was? "I did. We're not breaking up."

"Katsuki." Yuki rose. "I'm done. This is it. I'll get my things out of the apartment soon."

"No." He grabbed Yuki's arm. "We're going to talk this out."

Yuki pulled away from him and shook her head. Her heart felt like it was being crushed and pulled out of her chest at the same time. She took a deep breath to steady herself and said, "this is it Katsuki."

And she left. Her heart was so heavy and as she walked down the street it only seemed to multiply. After all, she felt two hearts shatter.
