"Hey dad," Yuki mumbled into the phone. For the past two days, Yuki had called in sick and hadn't moved from Tohru's couch once.
"Hey baby," her father chirped. "What are your plans for the holidays? Are you and Katsuki coming for Christmas or New Years? I know we did Christmas last year so I'm sure Mitsuki wants Christmas this year. Your stepmom and I are planning to head to Haru's at some point in the States so we need your plans."
"Oh."
"Baby?"
"Sorry dad." Her voice was quiet when she looked at the date. October 12th. She hadn't thought about the holidays yet. "Let's do Christmas in the States with Haru?"
"Now Yuki, just because Katsuki's in the top five and got that raise doesn't mean you should spend—"
"We broke up."
From the moment Yuki had met Bakugo, her father, Haruto, had heard nonstop about the guy. Once, when they were still in high school, a buddy at work asked Haruto if it bothered him that his daughter only talked about boys, but it never did. Haruto was more than glad to listen to Yuki gush for hours because from the moment her mother died, Haruto worried Yuki would turn into a shell. Haruto was so proud of the girl Yuki had turned into despite her traumatic childhood, and Bakugo made her even more vibrant.
So, Haruto's surprise was more than warranted. "What?"
An empty carton of cotton candy ice cream clunked to the ground when Yuki sat and cleared her throat. If he asked again, she'd talk about it. But she was afraid of saying it out loud. Yuki didn't want to face it or think about the way her heart had shredded when she walked away from Bakugo.
"I'll spend Christmas in the States. It's been forever since I saw Haru."
"Christmas in the States!" Haruto liked Bakugo. The kid had never disrespected him. "How about this, we'll buy your ticket, okay? It'll be our Christmas gift."
"Okay."
"I love you, sweetheart."
"I know." Yuki wanted to sleep. It didn't hurt when she did. "I have a big day tomorrow. I'll talk to you later."
"Call me whenever," her father sounded worried, "I'll always be here for you."
"I know."
Images flashed by on the screen and Yuki did not watch. She frowned when she realized she needed to go to work tomorrow. No matter what—if she didn't start to do something other than watch pathetic movies like Mamma Mia or The Prince and Me, she'd go crazy.
So she stood. Stretched. And took a shower.

The door opened and nothing walked through. "Dinner will be done in a few minutes!"
"Smells great!" Tohru said close by. "I had such a long day at work."
"Yeah?"
Yuki continued stirring. She'd found a few cans in Tohru's pantry and determined they'd go together well in a big stew. She stirred and stirred like she was trying to stir her emotions down into the mix.
Yuki smacked Tohru's hand and the invisible girl yelped, "I'll never get used to your hyper-awareness!"
Yuki grinned. The first time since the breakup, she grinned. "You know you love it."
Waves from Tohru diminished and the TV turned on. "Mamma Mia 2?"
"I know. It's worse than the first one but it's a great distractor."
Tohru gasped like she'd been attacked. "It's better than the first! What do you wanna watch?"
"No," Yuki shook her head, "I'm all screened out."
Yuki's noncommittal happiness dropped like falling rain when Tohru turned the TV off. Tohru whistled and Yuki looked up at her inquisitively.
"Kirishima called today."
Yuki's falling countenance dug through the ground when she hummed for Tohru to continue.
"He said he couldn't get ahold of you."
"Yup."
"He's worried about you, you know." Pillows shifted on the couch when Tohru sat. "He wanted to know if he could get your stuff from the apartment."
"Oh."
Yuki was not ready for that part. Besides, everything she owned at this point was practically Bakugo's. Everything would remind her of him.
"Bakugo's selling the apartment."
Yuki dropped the spoon. He would sell their home?
"Kirishima said he'd help with anything." Tohru tried to change the subject. "You're so lucky."
Yuki wanted to spit. She turned around and wiped away a straying tear. How was any of this luck? "What?"
Yuki's ears tingled and her skin warmed when Tohru cleared her throat. "He loves you. Kirishima, that is."
A dry laugh escaped Yuki. Kirishima's emotions were off-limits. Always had been. He confessed once in high school. Obviously, Yuki did not need him to, but he said he couldn't live with himself if he never said it. Bakugo said to ignore it. That Kirishima's emotions would fade. So, Yuki would always focus on everyone else's emotions whenever Kirishima was around.
Yuki's mind and blood were cold when Tohru changed the subject again.
