I whimpered as I felt myself begin to wake up. Slowly and groggily, I opened my eyes and saw I was in a white room. The last thing I remember was falling asleep in Doctor Garaki's medical room, but now I'm in a plain bedroom. I sat up and saw I was laying on a twin bed, a desk and small bookshelf across from me with a door to my left. Before I could get out of bed to stand up, the door opened, and Father walked in with the doctor. "Ah, Rin, you've woken up! You had us worried for a while." Father greeted with a grin. "What happened to me?" I asked in confusion, rubbing my eyes in attempt to wake myself up more. "You're healing and disability quirks seem to have consequences when using them. They use your life force as a power source in order to work. When you fainted after using them on us, I checked your vitals, and they were very low. You were sleeping and recovering for three days after that. If you had used them much longer, you might have died." Doctor Garaki explained, making me scared that I could have accidentally killed myself.
Seeing my fear, Father rubbed my head. "Don't worry, Rin. Doctor Garaki believes you might be able to sustain their uses longer as you get older and your wings get bigger. Even if that doesn't work, I'll help you find a way to get stronger. Despite the side effects, your quirks are very useful." He reassured.
"Now that you're awake, would you like to meet your older brother?" Father offered. My eyes widened in surprise and wonder before I nodded. He took my hands to help me off the bed, and though my legs felt a bit wobbly like I was going to fall, he held my hand to help keep me steady. Doctor led us down the hall to another bedroom, where a boy a couple years older than me was at. He had pale blue hair and was wearing gloves and black clothes, sitting on his bed while playing with a weird device. "Tomura-kun, I'd like you to meet someone." Father called, making the boy look up. His red eyes widened at the sight of me, making me become shy and nervous. He put his device down and got off his bed, taking a few steps towards us before stopping. "Sensei, who is this?" Tomura asked. "Her name is Rin. Everyone was mistreating her like how they did to you, so I brought her here. She'll be your little sister now, so I want the two of you to take care of each other." Father told him, gently pushing me towards him.
I fidgeted with my fingers nervously as I glanced at Tomura. He was clearly uncomfortable with the situation and began scratching his eye and neck, which looked dry and wrinkled along with his lips. "It's alright. I know you two have reservations about family, but ours won't be the same. You can open up and protect each other instead of fearing any retaliation." Father reassured. I felt a bit better at that, trusting him to be right. "I haven't had a big brother before. My mama died when I was born and my papa always left me with a nanny instead of spending time with me." I told Tomura. He stopped scratching and stared at me. "I had a sister, but she lied about doing something bad and blamed me instead. I had grandparents and a mom, but they never stopped my dad from hurting me." He murmured.
I went to take his hands in mine, feeling determined to reassure him. As I did, Kuro covered my hands in shadow when she sensed that Tomura's quirk could hurt me if we weren't careful. He flinched away startled, but I still took his hands. "Don't worry, Tomura-nī! I won't do that! I know what it's like for people to turn their backs on on you when you thought they'd never be mean and hurt you..." I murmured at the end, tears coming to my eyes at the painful memories. "But I won't be like them! I'll be the best sister ever! I'll love you, help you with whatever you wanna do, protect you, and beat up whoever tries to hurt you!" I told him determinedly. He was silent for a moment as he stared at our hands. "If you won't abandon me or betray me, then I won't abandon or betray you either. Imōto." Tomura finally said. I grinned happily, the tears slipping down my face as I felt so happy to be wanted and accepted by someone. "Okay, Nīsan!" I agreed, making him give me a small smile in return.
