The crowd cheered with praises as we stepped out. The king did his speech, congratulating us and confirming me as his heir. Lady Malory was perfect the role. She knew how to dodge questions, she knew how to lie, she even had me convinced at certain points.
Her doe like eyes held a sharpness to them. Alert at all times. She knew everyone by name and made everyone feel welcomed. His majesty always complimented her on her wit, I could see why in seconds.
"Sirus?" She called, softening her voice.
"Yes, la-"
Tugging on my arm, she moved her mouth to my ear. "Call me Violet, it's more natural," she then straightened my sleeves and raised her fan. Strolling off to greet more guests, she was never at rest.
"Amazing, isn't she?" The king handed me a glass.
"She's adapts well," I took a sip.
"Perfectly well," the king stroked his beard. "Anyways, what I came here for was, I'd like for the dancing to begin." He placed a hand on my shoulder. "And I don't know if you're the shy type but I'm sure the guests are getting a bit-"
"I got it," I gulped down the rest of my champagne.
It's only a few minutes. After this ball we won't have to see each other until the next big event. Walking up to her, I noticed immediately a tug at my heart.
Her eyes were blankly gazing at another gentlemen. If I recalled correctly, her ex fiancé.
"Violet," I loosely held her waist.
"Yes," her umber eyes immediately flicked to face me. Completely unfazed by my touch, she leaned her head back into my chest.
"Would you care for a dance?" I slid my hand to hers, gently bringing it to my lips. A small gasp broke from her mouth. She gave a weak grin and nodded.
Whisking her away to the dance floor, his majesty clicked his fingers and the orchestra instantly began. All eyes fell upon us, as we circled the dance floor. Her eyes fixated on me, I couldn't help but look back. Memorising every feature of her face.
From her bronze, glowing skin to her plump luscious lips. My eyes darted across her face. Her eyes sparkled beneath the chandelier light, like the stars in the sky. A galaxy held in her enchanting round eyes. Coils meticulously styled to hang over her forehead, whilst the rest slicked back into a ponytail. Embellished with gold from head to toe, she shone like the sun demanding attention from all.
Spinning gracefully, like an elegant swan, she never missed a step. When she spun away, I felt a sense of loneliness. A darkness, as if the sun had been clouded. But when she fell back into my arms, my body shivered. The sun had risen again and I felt warmth.
At her mere touch, at the sound of her laugh, my body reacted to it all. This was dangerous. Far too dangerous. The bond was growing at an alarming speed. I could feel it. With every minute we danced, the more I felt pulled towards her. The more I wanted to stay by her side. The more I wanted to get to know her.
Why she gazed at him? Who was he to her? How they met? What she liked? Why she said yes to me? Why she saved me? I was growing too possessive. Too involved.
"Are you alright?" Her brows knitted together.
"Yes, just slightly dizzy," I lied.
"Oh, then let's get you some fresh air," taking my hand she pulled me through the dance floor. Everyone moving away to make space for her. Everyone's eyes on us. Yet, not once did she gaze at anywhere else but her intended direction.
The air certainly did help, from the intoxicating scent coming off of her.
"Do you feel better?" She plopped down on a bench.
I nodded.
"You dance beautifully, Sirus," she fanned her self. "You must've had an amazing teacher."
"It is protocol as a son of the Luneth family," I cleared my throat. "But you were practically gliding on air."
"Thank you , but my father says dance relies on two," she grinned.
"I guess so," I glanced up at the moon.
"I heard moon cycles can effect vampires," she closed up her fan.
"They do," I leaned on the rail. "But for a weak vampire like me, not really."
"Weak?" She rose her brow.
"Funny isn't it?" I laughed dryly. "Son of the famous Luneth household is a weakling. With eyes that can barely take the colour red and an inability of controlling his powers."
"I think the opposite," she played with her coils. "I think you're powers are different, so it's more difficult to control." She stood up. "Those ironic golden eyes are beautiful." Slowly stepping closer and closer. "The very thing that is the death of your bloodline is in your eyes, isn't that a sign of strength?" I must not be blinded by such honeyed words.
"You flatter me," I couldn't stop staring at her.
"I speak honestly," she stood directly facing me.
"Those eyes are the biggest beauty you hold, the thing you are most known for." She leaned on the rails. "You should be proud."
"..thank you," I whispered. She nodded, resting her arms on the rails beside me.
Knock knock
The both of turned, our eyes meeting for a second before I allowed the person in.
"You are wanted by your majesty,"the guard stepped in. "And Lady Moore would like to talk to you , Lady Malory."
