Chapter 20

"Well... Yuki" panimulang sabi ni Daddy, Nararamdaman ko ang tingin niya saakin kahit nakayuko ako sa harap nila.

I clenched my fist on my thigh trying to calm myself down.

I don't know what to do and say to them dahil sa pangyayari na ito ngayon, I have no intention of telling them yet personal things like my relationship with Kenji, Kenji didn't tell me this right away. God! Hindi ko alam ang gagawin ko.

I just stopped thinking when I felt Kenji's warm hand holding my hand under the table. I looked at him but he was smiling at me from his eyes.

I took a deep breath before facing Mommy and Daddy who were looking at me. seemed to be waiting for me to speak.

"Mom, Dad. This is Kenji Fujima.... My boyfriend.." I said nervously and squeezed Kenji's hand under the table.

"Fujima? The Fujima Family is one of the top 10 rich families here in Kanagawa, I heard that Fujima's business such as Hotel and Restaurant is really a Favorite spot of People and Foreigners in this country." Daddy started, I'm not surprised he knows that because he's always on Business Trips. maybe he's been with Kenji's parents on the Trips he's been on.

"So, I assume that you are the heir to all of your family's businesses, right? you are their only child. " I seem to have lost my appetite when I got what he was saying. They will agree with my relationship with Kenji because they will gain something. Why did I forget what kind of people they are? They need that to maintain their image well with their other business partners.

That whole dinner they had no other topic but business because Kenji had not yet realized what my parents wanted, he enjoyed talking to them while I remained silent on the side. They didn't question our relationship anymore because of the life that Kenji has or it's right to say that ... because of the wealth that Kenji's family has so they are interested.

While we were on our way home, I couldn't help but think that one day when Kenji and I were separated, they would use me to get what they wanted?

Napatalon ako ng kaunti ng maramdaman yumakap saakin si Kenji mula sa likuran, pinatong pa niya ang baba niya sa balikat ko.

"Mula nung makauwi tayo tahimik ka, may problema ka ba? Pwede mong sabihin saakin.." malambing pa na sabi niya. Napapikit naman ako. Hindi mawala wala sa isip ko sila Mommy. Hindi ko alam ang susunod nilang gagawin pero pakiramdam ko hindi iyon maganda. Wala pa man ay nararamdaman ko na agad ang presensiya ng balak nila.

"Feeling ko may binabalak sila Mommy..."

"Sa tingin mo ba, hindi nila ako gusto para sayo?"

"I dont know yet, iba ang liko ng bituka nila.."

If I'm being honest, I don't think my parents really like Kenji. I mean, they've never outright said it, but they always seem to raise their eyebrows or roll their eyes whenever he comes up in conversation. I can tell there's something they don't like about him. I don't know what it is exactly, but it's definitely there. Maybe they don't think he's good enough for me, or they don't trust him...or maybe they think I can do better than him or something. I'm not sure.

Nang matapos ako mag half bath, nakita ko si Kenji na tulog sa kama. Susunod na sana ako nang tumunog ang cellphone ko. Nakita ko naman ang caller ay si Daddy. Kaya naman agad akong kinabahan.

"Piper, can i talk to you for a moment?"

Bumuntong Hininga ako bago sumagot. "Yes, Daddy. What is it"

"We need to have a serious conversation. It's about your boyfriend, Kenji."

"What about him?" Agad na sagot ko. Napasandal ako sa bintana habang hawak ang aking telepono.

"Well, we've been looking into his family, and we're not exactly thrilled with what we've found, His family's wealth is much lower than ours, and we're concerned that he won't be able to take care of you." Napapikit ako nang marinig ko iyon. Sabi na nga ba hindi nila magugustuhan. Napaka High Standars nila! May kaya lang sila Kenji.. kaya ito ang mapupuna ni Daddy. Hindi ko maintindihan kung bakit ganon sila kung kumilala ng tao.

"Daddy, I don't care about money. I love Kenji, and he loves me. That's all that matters."  Kinuyom ko ang kamay ko sa iritasyon na nararamdaman ko pero pinatili kong magtunog magalang habang nakikipag usap kay Daddy.

"I know you love him, Yuki, but we have to think about your future. A man's ability to provide for his wife and family is extremely important."

"But wala pa naman akong balak magpakasal daddy. Its too early for that." Asik ko, narinig ko naman ang marahas niyang paghinga. Sign na naiinis na siya.

"You can't count on that. You need to think about what's best for you. Maybe you could find someone else who is better for you."

"Daddy, you can't just dismiss him like that. He treats me well, and we love each other. He always puts my needs before his own. That's what matters, not how rich his family is!, I don't want to find someone else, I want Kenji. I want to be with him. Can't you understand that?" I continue to Argue with him. Hindi niya pwede husgahan sila Kenji dahil sa kaya nito sa buhay! Its absurb!

"I don't see why you're getting so upset. It's a valid concern. I just want your future to be secure."

"I don't care. Even if Kenji and I had nothing, I would be with him! And I would be happy, because I would be with the love of my life!" Naiinis na sagot ko.

"Look, how can you be sure Kenji is good enough for you when he comes from a family like that? Why don't you settle down with someone like Hanagata instead? He's more suitable for you, and he probably comes from a wealthier family. Maybe you should consider it."

Napapikit ako sa inis at pinatay ang tawag.

Sino nagsabi mas higit si Hanagata? Kenji is almost damn perfect!, I'm so frustrated with him! I'll show him that I'm with Kenji for the right reasons, and I don't care what he thinks. I'm going to make this work whether my dad approves of it or not.
