I stared at the door not knowing if I should or not. I didn't really have another choice. This was the only place where Noah wouldn't find me. I really just needed some space. I couldn't go back and deal with all the questions because then I'd have to answer them. And I didn't have answers right now.
I knocked quickly before taking a step back. I looked down at my outfit and sighed. This is not something I'd usually wear around him. I hope he wasn't disappointed or upset I came here unannounced. I didn't want to upset him or intrude. It wasn't my place to do so.
The door opened and he stared at me as he took a sip from his glass, leaning against the door frame.
"Hi Charlie."
"Hi." I took a deep sigh. "Sorry I didn't know where else to go."
"Don't apologise baby. Are you okay?" I shook my head no. "Do you need to stay here?" I heard people talking in the back of his house and I peeked around before looking back at him.
"No it's okay. Sorry. I didn't mean to intrude." I turned around and took a step away.
"Charlie?"
"Hm?"
"You're never an intrusion sweetheart. Come in. They're just work colleagues." His voice was soft and low. Not once did he ever come across like I should be concerned about anything with him. He stepped back and opened the door but didn't stop staring at me until I followed him inside. "Go up to your room. I'll get rid of these guys and come up." I nodded and started up the stairs.
He'd given me my own room not long after we started this whole thing. He didn't want to keep driving me home after our dates so he had a room done out for me and filled with clothes I mentioned I'd liked. All of them big brands and most still had their tags.
I'd wake up the morning after our date and he'd cook me breakfast. Sometimes we'd watch a movie and then he'd take me home. The furthest it ever went was a gentle kiss on the cheek before I climbed out of his car.
I was lucky with him. I knew I was.
I pushed my door open and stepped inside, closing it softly behind me.
There was a full length mirror in front of the door way and I just stood looking at myself. I was a mess from sitting in my car for 4 hours crying and screaming in the middle of nowhere.
Where are you?
Noah said you left in tears? Are you okay?
Loz?
Charlie, we're really worried.
Just let us know you're okay before we call on a full country wide man hunt for you.
Charlotte?
Lottie please.
What did Noah say?
I sighed as I read through the messages I'd had from the group chat. I wasn't replying to each of their individual messages. Between the 6 of them I had 12 missed calls and 45 texts.
I'm fine. I'm with David. I might stay here for a little while. I'll be about if you need me but please stop calling.
I sent the text to the group before muting it so I wasn't being spammed with notifications from them. I'd reply when I felt like I could.
I locked my phone and threw it onto the bed as I walked into the room. I needed to change before he came up here. I couldn't be seen like this anymore. David had certain standards. That's why we have our whole deal in the first place. Because he likes to look at me in pretty clothes and spoil me. I didn't look like I was spoiled right now. I walked into the bathroom and started sorting my face out with the makeup in there, removing all the dried mascara from under my eyes and making myself look like someone he's be proud to have around.
Once I had redone my makeup I walked over to my wardrobe and started flicking through to find something better to wear. I really didn't feel like dressing up but I'm sure I could pull something cute and comfortable from all of this.
I pulled a white dress out and an oat meal cardigan out and closed the door with my foot. There was a knock at the door.
"I'm just getting changed." I turned as the door opened and I pulled the jumper off, holding it in my hand as David walked in with 2 wine glasses and a bottle of my favourite wine.
"I think you need a drink tonight." He smiled sweetly and put them down before turning around and facing the door.
I quickly changed, pulling the dress over my head before dropping the jeans.
"Okay. I'm good." He turned as I bended my knees, picking the jeans up and folding them, placing them on the end of the bed.
I stood silently as he opened the bottle and poured 2 glasses and walked them over to me. He handed me mine and I took a sip.
"Is this-"
"Your favourite? Of course. I always keep a few bottles in just in case." I smiled at him as he sat on the bed. "You look a little better now."
"Yeah sorry. I came from uni. I was a mess." I scrunched my face up and me smirked.
"You still apologise too much Charlie." He patted the bed beside him and I slowly sat down. "You hadn't just come from uni had you? Because its 7pm and I know you're last class today was at 11am." I sighed and looked into the glass. "You've not been yourself lately."
"I've had a lot going on." I looked up at him and he gave me a single nod before standing up. He held a hand out and I took it as he walked us out of the room and down to his living room. Not the main one, the smaller one he used every time I was here.
He flicked the lights on and pointed to the sofa. I sat down as he put the electric fire on and some music in the background. It wasn't long until he was sat beside me pushing a box of tissues towards me with his strong hands.
"Time to talk beautiful."
