"Natalia. Nat. Natty. Wake up, Nat."
She nearly broke his finger then and there. "What?" Natalia reluctantly sat up and rubbed her eyes. She was still tired despite nearly having slept a full day.
Sergio took a seat on the bed despite feeling a bit out of place. It was Lorenzo's wing, after all. His cousin never let anyone in besides his most trusted staff workers. "Elizabeth and Charles."
Oh. "I should call them, shouldn't I?" They were probably going crazy worrying about her.
Sergio nodded, placing his laptop on her lap. "Yes."
She hesitated. "We should talk." Despite how nonchalant he acted around her, she saw the remnants of anger in his eyes. He was obviously upset about the fact that she'd fucked his cousin.
"Later. Family first."
Fidgeting, Natalia nodded and pulled the laptop in closer. She hesitated turning it on and calling the two people who she regarded as family despite them not being blood. Seeing her hesitance and how upset she appeared, her hands shaking and her eyes reddening, Sergio decided to take his leave, leaving a bottle of water, a tissue box by her side and a pat on her shoulder.
The pat was the little encouragement she needed to make the call.
It wasn't even a minute into the call that she completely broke down into tears as Charles tried to comfort her through the screen, asking if she wanted him to drop everything and come to her while Elizabeth simply sat in silence, allowing Natalia to recollect herself. And she did before long.
"I'm sorry," she cried. "I should've called earlier. I was just so overwhelmed." It felt like a huge part of her youth had been a lie, after all. And it wasn't like she could tell them that Sergio was literally in the mafia and that she'd fucked the head of said mafia.
"Don't stress it, Natalia. Are you okay?"
Natalia nodded wiping her tears with a tissue. "Yeah. I don't wanna talk too much about it." It was still too fresh in her mind.
It was then that Elizabeth finally decided to speak. "I think it'll be best if you're off the project for now."
"But you promised-!"
"There are more important things in life than success. Right now, I want you to rest and heal."
"I'm better now. And I will be even better within a week. No bruises, no cuts, no nothing."
"It's not about the bruises, Natalia. It's about how you feel. You obviously aren't fine and that's okay. Most of us wouldn't be fine after everything you've gone through."
Natalia's lower lip started shaking, her eyes lining with tears. "I really want to do this. I promise I do." Natalia had found the location. Natalia had managed the architects. Natalia had found the site workers. She wanted to see the project through after spending nearly a year perfecting it. It was her project.
