CHAPTER SIXTEEN | CLOSE TO HEART

Despite not being too happy with the idea of Natalia being out in the open, he knew that to keep Natalia happy, he had to take a step back and let her do what she wanted. Did he not trust his men to keep her safe, this would've been a different story, however. Alas, he did.

"Enzo," Alejandro sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "¿Qué sucede contigo? Pareces distraído." What's wrong with you? You seem distracted.

Lorenzo shrugged before continuing to assemble his gun once again, having paused for a moment as Natalia's pretty face haunted his mind. He wasn't about to open up to his grandpa about having a fat crush on one of his latest one-night stands despite everyone knowing that Lorenzo rarely fucked around.

Lorenzo had only had two girlfriends in the thirty-one years he'd been alive. His first girlfriend cheated on him with a broke guy when he refused to fuck her. His second girlfriend, he broke up with because her moans were as irritating as her voice. A break-up that his grandpa wasn't too happy with.

Women were too much work. Adding a relationship to the mix just further complicated the already complicated species. He couldn't be bothered. He was too rich to care enough to bother about such futile matters such as love.

The only girl that Lorenzo loved was his cat. He adored Mila more than he'd ever cared for anyone. To be fair, that comparison was perhaps not much when taking into regard that he hated everyone.

"You know, Crystal is having her engagement party in a few weeks."

Lorenzo already knew where this conversation was going.

"If you hadn't broken up with her, that would've been you marrying her and not Arturo."

Lorenzo clicked his tongue. He broke up with her nearly four years ago and the familia still couldn't get over the fact that he was willingly remaining single in his early thirties. It was apparently very hard to believe that anyone could want to be single and alone.

To say that he'd started hating the idea of marriage after his second girlfriend was, perhaps, an understatement.

Crystal had been one pesky, shitty and whiny girlfriend. He would rather be shot dead than give their relationship another try. And that was saying a lot because Lorenzo had never been shot. His skillset had made that certain.

"You're not getting any younger, Lorenzo. The familia is getting worried."

In other words, if he didn't find a girl, they'd start arranging another relationship, as if the relationship with Crystal hadn't been a shitty pick.

They acted as though he was gonna go through with any pick of theirs. He'd shoot the poor girl for being the unlucky pick. Her blood would be on their hands.

"We were thinking-"

"Don't." Don't think. He didn't want to hear it.

Alejandro blinked, surprised to see Lorenzo's glare. Usually, his grandson held him in a higher regard, treating him with the utmost respect. Yet here he was, staring at him with nothing but disrespect.

Grumbling in annoyance, Lorenzo stood up and left the breakfast table behind, stepping out to the pool area. It wasn't until he sat under the shade by the pool that he finally pulled out his phone and checked the hourly updates he got on Natalia. As soon as he read them, the frown turned upside down and he started smiling like a fool.

The updates had gone from simple sentences to elaborate paragraphs of everything she'd managed to do in the span of an hour. To say that Lorenzo was impressed was an understatement. He was thoroughly in awe of Natalia and her dedication to her work.
