CHAPTER FIFTEEN | THE ONE IN CHARGE

She felt like an animal in a zoo.
"Water?"
Her grip tightened on her book, nearly tearing the paper of the page as she turned it. "No, please," she repeated for the sixty times that hour. They refused to leave despite her insistence. They simply insisted on staying, following her around with plates of fresh fruit, water and a cocktail.
Natalia wanted none of that, however. What she wanted to silence. Yet it was the only thing she wasn't allowed to get.
She felt like a teenager again. And not in a good way. She was shackled to the manor. The only difference was that she wasn't being forced to wear an ankle monitor by her biological dad. Instead, she was held at gunpoint whenever she left to take a walk around the manor as though she was a prisoner and not a guest.
It was ridiculous.
And what was even more ridiculous was that she didn't even fear the guns anymore.
"Where's Pepe?"
The staff glanced at each other and remained silent.
Natalia sighed. "Stefano?"
They hesitated but answered before long. "Office."
Slamming the book shut and putting it under her arm, Natalia stood up and started treading down the stairs as the staff followed her in panic, not knowing how to stop the girl who the boss gave specific orders to not touch. So instead she hyperventilated in panic as she stood before Stefano's door and knocked.
It was a bit before the man opened the door, rubbing the sleeping dust from his eyes despite it being noon. "Natalia?"
"Can I come in?" Her eyes pleaded with him. Despite finding the guy odd, she had a feeling they'd leave her alone if she joined one of the guys in their offices. That's usually how it went. She just wanted to read in peace, to work in peace and to be in peace.
Just as Stefano was about to reject her, he saw how her eyes pleaded with his. He couldn't say no to her when she looked at him like that. "Get in then."
Natalia nearly cried out in happiness as she entered and the staff stood outside frozen in fear as Stefano closed his door on their faces. "Did I wake you up?"
Stefano only let out a grumble before lying down on his bed once again. "There are cameras in here, I should mention," he groaned, shutting his eyes. "Don't do anything stupid."
Natalia fidgeted nervously. She couldn't help but stare at the young man and his blue hair. He was definitely the odd sheep in the family. That much was evident. "I wasn't planning on that. I just wanted to get away from the staff."
Stefano chuckled before giving out a hum. "Make yourself at home then." Just as Natalia was about to sit on Stefano's couch, his voice stopped her. "Just not on my couch. Trust me."
Her face contorted in disgust. Just as she was about to sit on his chair, he stopped her once more.
"Sit on the beanbag, Natalia."
She let herself drop on the beanbag, sitting in silence as Stefano went back to sleep as she read. It was the first time she'd been alone in several weeks. They always hovered over her, constantly asking her if she wanted to eat, if she wanted water or if she needed anything. It was sweet at first but it quickly got annoying. Extremely annoying.
