CHAPTER FIFTY-ONE | FOREVER

"Congratulations on passing the second trimester."

Natalia didn't say much. She simply smiled. There wasn't much to say, after all.

"If I can ask," the woman looked around in confusion. "Where's Lorenzo? It's just that he hasn't missed a single appointment."

Her lips tugged. He was probably waiting for Natalia as she spoke with the lady. "He's fine but I'm afraid I have to go now."

The woman nodded and leisurely started cleaning up the space as Natalia got her things and left. But instead of going to the bedroom where Lorenzo slept, she went out to the beach and sat by the ocean, simply enjoying the salty air and the peace while she could.

Natalia needed to think.

She managed to be alone for some time before the man who filled her thoughts sat down beside her, dirtying his Armani slacks with the wet sand.

"You didn't wake me up."

Natalia said nothing, simply drawing on the sand. She knew it was perhaps selfish but needed some time to think after what she'd accidentally witnessed the night before.

"Why?"

It was so stupid she couldn't even say it. I mean, how could a mother say she was jealous of her own child? Natalia huffed. It wasn't her fault. He's so openly and repeatedly said 'I love you' while caressing her belly that she almost screamed at him in jealousy. And she couldn't even blame him because she hadn't even said it herself.

And that was the issue. Why hadn't she confessed? She did love him, after all, so why hadn't she?

Maybe she didn't deserve his confession at all.

"What did she say?"

"Congrats," Natalia whispered. "In passing the second trimester."

He was silent for a bit. "You don't seem very happy."

And that was the thing. She was happy. So fucking happy yet Lorenzo's love for their kid made her so jealous that she just felt stupid and unable to allow herself to feel the full extent of her happiness.

She was stupid. So, so, so stupid.

"What is it, Talia?"

"How come we haven't said it yet?"

First, he was confused, then surprised followed by a smile tugging at his lips. "This is sudden."

"Yesterday," she sighed in embarrassment. "I heard you."

He blinked until the information finally settled and he laughed.

"Don't laugh. It's not funny."

"I think it is."

Before Natalia could complain again, she was pinned on her back, Lorenzo's lips just a breadth's width between them. "What are you doing, Lorenzo?"

He didn't answer. He only pecked her lips. "Some days, you can be really stupid."

She glared. "I'm not stupid."
