CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX | FRIENDS TO STRANGERS

Natalia couldn't stop shaking as she stared wide-eyed at her ex as he held the gun in question, his eyes crazier than the day she'd left him and he'd promised her that he was going to make her regret, he was going to make her eat her words and take him back.

"Come here." Jason dropped his gun as he took a step forward, his blonde hair matted against his forehead, blue eyes almost appearing dull and his dress shirt buttons were done incorrectly. He looked sloppy. Something which her ex would've rather died than to be identified with. Was this even Jason? "Come here, Nat."

Natalia shook her head, tears drenching her cheeks as she stared at the pool of blood forming around Lorenzo to her horror. Quickly checking his pulse, she cried out in relief when she still felt its steady beat despite his passed-out state. He was alive.

"Look at me, babe."

Refusing to meet his gaze, Natalia kept her eyes on Lorenzo's serene features. He looked so at peace despite the blood that pooled out of his wound, as if he was simply asleep.

Natalia hissed aloud when Jason suddenly grabbed a fistful of hair and forcefully dragged her away, causing her cries to grow louder as her scalp burned. "I told you to come here. You should've come when I told you to."

Understanding the double meaning in his words, Natalia could do nothing but cry as he dragged her away from Lorenzo and further into her apartment.

She'd left Colombia, thinking that if she left the familia, she'd finally be out of the woods but alas it had never been the Valiente name that had caused her harm. It was Cabot.

Natalia let out a loud cry when he grabbed her hurt arm and forced her into her bed, pinning her down with the weight of his body and gathering her arms behind her back. "Stop! Please, stop, Jason! Please, stop!"

"Why should I?" Gathering her wrists, he tied them together with a zip tie, bitterness dripping from his tongue. "You didn't care to think about my feelings when you left me."

Stilling from fear, her lips shook as she tried to find her words only to draw to a halt. She did leave him and no part of her being regretted that. He had been a terrible boyfriend and so, like their relationship, the breakup had been ugly and terrible.

"Don't cry, petal."

She hated that nickname. She hated it so fucking much that the mere sound of it made her wanna puke.

"You know I hate it when you cry." He twisted her body around and locked his cold eyes with her teary stare. "I said stop."

Natalia only shook her head. "You're gonna hurt me, aren't you?"

Jason sighed as if it were some chore he couldn't be bothered with. "You wouldn't understand. That's why I have to make you understand."

"By hurting me?"

A small smile spread on his lips but the cold look remained in his eyes. "Now you get, petal."

Fear trickled down her spine, causing her to go completely still as Jason smacked a piece of duct tape over her mouth just as she gathered the air in her lungs and started to scream the loudest that she could.

"Don't say I didn't warn you."

Her eyes widened when he suddenly pinned her hips down with his own, his nails digging into her thigh as he spread them apart. Suddenly she didn't see the man she'd spent years caring for but a stranger, someone so foreign to her that fear, unlike anything before blossomed in her chest.
