CHAPTER THIRTEEN | GARDEN

It wasn't long before Natalia found herself leaving the manor and traversing through the lush garden to get some peace. Natalia simply sat by a small table with her laptop before her as two gardeners tended to the various fruit trees and flowers. It was a change of scenery that she'd needed after being coddled by Lorenzo's staff and being followed everywhere by at least four guards.
Her clothes had long arrived as well as anything she could ever need, whether it be for work or personal use. Everything had arrived but Lorenzo.
She hadn't seen the man in several days.
Natalia had gone from being annoyed by his employees and family members to growing a bit nervous. She was a bit fearful of Lorenzo's reaction to the rumours. She didn't want him to think that she'd purposely spread the rumours with malicious intent when she'd done the opposite. She'd tried to de-escalate them but it only led to more frustration as they all dismissed and ignored her.
It was as though everyone was trying to annoy her with their accusations; everyone but Mila.
Hearing the familiar soft 'meow', a smile spread across Natalia's lips as her gaze found Mila's bright green eyes. Natalia didn't hesitate to pick the sweet cat up and place her on her lap. Mila was, however, disinterested in Natalia's lap, seeing as she jumped on the table and forced Natalia's laptop to close as she took a seat on top of it.
Chuckling, Natalia pressed a kiss against the head of the black cat. "Where were you? I haven't seen you all day. I missed you."
Mila only stared.
"You know," Natalia started, scratching the purring cat behind her ears, "you're the only one I can stand at the moment," she chuckled. "I should thank you."
Mila's purrs only got louder as she leaned her head into Natalia's touch.
"Thank you," she sighed, closing her eyes. "Thank you for being here."
"I should leave more often, perhaps."
Natalia nearly jumped out of her skin. "Jesus Christ! You frightened me."
Lorenzo chuckled and dragged the chair across from Natalia to her side before taking a seat. "I missed you too."
Natalia watched wide-eyed as Lorenzo petted his cat. She wasn't sure whether his words were directed to her or his cat. She didn't ask, however. Instead, she let out a sigh and supported her head against his shoulder. "I hate you."
Her words caught Lorenzo off-guard. He hadn't expected that to be the first few words she'd exchange with him after not having seen him for several days. He let out a questioning hum.
She suddenly felt bad. She hadn't meant to sound so mean. "I'm sorry," she sighed once more.
Lorenzo remained quiet, his full focus on Mila as he continued scratching her. "Why are you apologising?"
"I told them we're not together but they insisted. I really did try," she sighed once again. She was so mentally tired of everything and everyone. "So I'm sorry." She didn't mean to be trouble but that's all she'd been since she arrived in Colombia. All the signs pointed for her to leave but she couldn't. Not yet. Else all her suffering would've been for nothing.
Lorenzo couldn't help but smile. She was cute.
"Why are you back?"
Lorenzo chuckled, finally turning his head and raising an eyebrow at the girl.
