CHAPTER FOURTEEN | DON'S ORDER

Natalia had memorised the work schedule of the guards, their names and their habits. She knew who was terrified of Lorenzo and who was terrified of her. It took her a while to realise why they feared her and despite finding the reason annoying, she couldn't be too mad when she figured she could use it to her advantage.

They were scared that Lorenzo would find out. They were scared that she would go crying to Lorenzo. They were scared of touching Lorenzo's woman – Lorenzo's woman which apparently was her.

And so as soon as the guards were to change shifts, Natalia shot her arm out and yanked the guard into Lorenzo's room before he could free himself from her grip. The guard appeared pale from fear, tears welling in his eyes once he realised it was Natalia who loomed over him with that smug smile.

"Por favor. No quiero problemas. Te lo ruego." Please. I don't want problems. I beg you.

Natalia rolled her eyes. And crouched down to the fallen soldier's level, grabbing his jaw and forcing his eyes to meet hers. "Si no quieres problemas, escúchame y escucha con atención." If you don't want problems, listen to me and listen carefully.

Despite not wanting to, the man forced himself to listen as he cried, begging her not to make him do whatever it was she wanted but she insisted, rolling her eyes at the man. She wasn't making him do anything illegal, after all. All she wanted was for him to be her eyes and ears in her project since she couldn't physically be there.

After some coaxing and persuasive words, her money finally seemed to take the edge off his fear as he, at last, nodded, agreeing to her as he wiped his tears and finally stood up. It wasn't until another guard shift happened that Natalia violently pushed the flushed soldier out as he quickly corrected his suit and got into position as if he hadn't just been dragged into the don's room by the don's woman.

The soldier's flush only brightened as Pepe walked to the door, giving the flushed soldier a glance of suspicion as he knocked. "Come out, Natalia. I need to talk with you."

This confused Natalia a great deal. It was her understanding that Pepe didn't like her very much, after all. "Pepe?" Natalia opened the door, holding her book to her chest. "What are you doing here?"

Pepe chuckled and took a step aside, gesturing for her to step out which she did with suspicious eyes. "No reason to be so suspicious. Lorenzo wants me to talk to you, befriend you even."

Natalia blinked. "You talked to him?" She hadn't seen him in nearly three weeks now.

"Not exactly."

Her shoulders fell in disappointment. "Well, maybe I don't want to befriend you."

That caught Pepe by surprise.

"Maybe I want to be alone."

Scoffing at the girl, Pepe almost violently closed the door behind her before gesturing with his chin for her to follow him. Natalia followed but not without huffing at the older man as she walked barefoot down the marble floor and the stairs.

"Where are we going?"

"We're going for a walk around the premises. You like the garden, yes?"

"It's really pretty, yes."

Pepe gave her a glance, a faint smile on his lips. "It is, isn't it?"

Natalia nodded, her smaller legs finally catching up to Pepe's. "Tell me the real reason why you're doing this."
