CHAPTER FIFTY | HEIR

Instead of allowing her to listen to his grandfather's cursing, Lorenzo quickly covered her ears and Natalia was forced to watch the man's expression contort from anger to ferocity. His gaze rather darted over hers and as the fighting persisted, she realised it had little to do with her in actuality.

Lorenzo was the son Alejandro had never gotten, the son who wasn't an artist but calculative, cynical and ruthless. Lorenzo had been perfectly moulded to be the perfect fit for the familia, yet here he was, going against the family for an outsider, for a woman.

It wasn't about her because it was about Lorenzo and his sudden change of heart.

Suddenly, Alejandro's anger sizzled out into a glare, causing Natalia to still when his eyes met hers again.

"I'm sorry," she murmured, the words escaping the captive of her lips before she could stop them. She didn't know what was going on. All she knew was that she didn't want this to ruin the relationship he had with his family.

Lorenzo drew her closer, dropping one hand from her ear only to tut her. "First lesson. No apologising."

"But-"

"Second lesson. No questioning."

She spun around, pouting her lips at him. "I'm not your employee. I thought we'd already talked about that."

His lips tugged. They had but that didn't matter. "It does when you're getting in between my business and me."

Her eyebrows further furrowed. "But this is family. Not business-"

"It is business," Alejandro spoke, agreeing with Lorenzo despite their dispute.

Before Natalia could question it again, she was pulled into Lorenzo's arms, her ears covered and her groans stifled against his broad chest. It was several minutes before Lorenzo let go of her and when she turned around, Alejandro's anger was contained once more but she saw the clear discontent in his eyes.

"One year," Alejandro spoke, his eyes faltering to Natalia's belly before locking with her sparkly blue eyes. "And he better get her eyes."

Lorenzo had to stifle his chuckle when he felt her still.

He didn't disagree because Lorenzo wished for that too.

His dark hair, her blue eyes, his cold glare, her giggles.

He wanted all of that with her.

Pressing a kiss against her head, he hummed and that was all it took for Alejandro to let go of the matter. "You better tell your parents tonight."

Lorenzo hummed once more, drawing Natalia closer when his gaze locked with her nervous fidgeting. It wasn't until his grandfather was completely gone that she turned on her heel and locked her confused and scared gaze on Lorenzo.

"Is everything okay?"

He kissed her forehead. "He agreed."

"With?"

"He's gonna work for a year."

She blinked. "Just like that?"
