Taylor got home from work the next day to blaring music coming from the apartment. She couldn't quite make out what the song was, but she knew it was some kind of rock, as she had multiple CDs she got from Tony with his kind of songs on them. He always got them for her as gifts, although she never really put them in unless she was very mad. They were her anger CDs.
Her first thought was that there was a robber, and she cursed herself for firing her bodyguard after it turned out that he was an agent. But then again, there was no way someone could break into such a highly secure place, right?
Then it occurred to her that she was actually living with Steve now, but he obviously couldn't be playing music that loud. She hadn't even seen him since the day before as he retired to his room early to unpack, and then Taylor left for work early in the morning to further develop her project and start her study.
But then what could it be?
She entered the apartment carefully, despite knowing that the potential robber wouldn't hear her from the speakers surrounding the living room, coming to face Steve frantically trying to turn Black in Black from AC/DC off with numerous remotes. Taylor groaned, hitting her forehead with her palm automatically. There was no way she wasn't hallucinating.
"Steve!" She yelled over the music, spreading her arms in a 'what the fuck is happening' motion. At least she wanted to send that message. "Give me that damned remote!"
"But which one?"
"All of them!" She shrieked, grabbing every remote he had collected in his arms and pressing their buttons. "Did you pile all the remotes?"
Steve looked at her guiltily, and if the timing would have been more appropriate, she would have laughed at his expression. He tried to help sort them, attempting to find the one that controlled the speakers. Even Taylor couldn't recognize the right one from so many ones in one pile. When they already tried most of the remotes, she held up the last one in her hand like the newborn lion from Lion King, concentrating on making the music stop with just one button.
When the music ceased to be, her heart was still hammering loudly inside her chest, her ears almost ringing from the previous loudness. She blew out a puff of air, turning to Steve with a scowl. He put his hands up in surrender, but Taylor wasn't about to let it go so easily. How could he make such a commotion? Even losing the remote he originally turned the music on with?
"Just...how?" She grumbled, running a hand through her hair with a groan. Steve bit down on his bottom lip anxiously.
"I accidentally turned it on, then I couldn't find the remote, so I brought every remote I could find in the house to turn it off with...but it didn't work." He replied sheepishly, scratching his head.
"How was it so loud?" Taylor exclaimed with another frown, finally kicking off her high heels that were torturing her feet till now.
"I don't know! I didn't do anything with the volume!" He defended, his eyes instantly going wide at the accusation. Taylor shook her head.
"Just call me next time, got it?" She murmured, placing her hands on her hips. "Just so we can avoid similar situations."
"I don't actually own a phone yet..." He trailed off, eying the pile of remotes on the couch. "I was planning on buying one as soon as my first check came."
Taylor looked at him incredulously. If S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't bother to give him a normal working phone, then what did they provide? He was doomed without anything that he could communicate with.
"We are going shopping in an hour then. You'll pay me back sometime, but I don't want anything like this again."
