On Saturday, Taylor wanted to make the best breakfast ever as a gift to herself on her day off, deciding to spend the whole day relaxing. She figured she deserved it, although the original idea was Tony's after he heard how stressed out she was because of the beef at work.
Except, she was invited to a party by her old high school friends, meaning she had to be present at a nightclub by nine o'clock. At first, she wanted to decline, but what would they think then? Back in high school, Taylor had made sure to attend parties, oftentimes sneaking out just to get drunk with her best friends in the only nightclub in town that handed out alcohol to minors.
Where were those friends now? That was a frequent question she had no answers for. No one in that group remained close to her after she ditched them all too early to go to a fancy university. Some labeled her as a show-off, and others congratulated her, promising to keep in touch. Yet the group chat they set up in the past was now abandoned. The most recent message was that invitation, and everyone was going to be there.
Taylor scowled in concentration as she flipped her omelet over like a pancake, giving out a victory whistle as she smirked at Robocat, whom she sat on the counter beside her. She couldn't help but think how all her old classmates were spending the morning, how they must have just woken up with a hangover due to partying the whole previous night like there was no tomorrow.
That was how her uni years were supposed to go as well, yet they were over so soon that she didn't have much time to make many friends. She was working now, doing what she liked to do, but still felt that she wasn't whole, that there was something desperately missing from her life. Back when she lived with Tony, she didn't feel so empty, but there was still something missing, even back then, resulting in no solution to her problem.
Maybe it was because of her lack of social life after high school, having no real friends that she could talk to and go out with whenever she wanted to. Or maybe it was all the responsibility dumped on her too early to get done with her degree, get a job, and start taking part in the real world where things weren't rainbows and sunshine.
Now that she would meet up with old friends, she could make one for real. Have a true friend for once without them having any ulterior motives. Too many people wanted to be with her for her money, her expensive cars, and her family. If only they knew it was only a façade, being perfect. It was nothing more than pretending that everything was all right.
"Good morning," Steve greeted behind her, making her jump ever so slightly. She turned around with a smile, her eyes quickly scanning him from head to toe. He was wearing a simple grey t-shirt and some black sweatpants, but it was enough to offer him a small, almost unnoticeable smirk.
"I'm making omelets, want some?" She questioned, turning back towards the stove.
"Sure, thank you." His eyes traveled over to the robot on the counter, his eyebrows furrowing. "What's that?"
"Robocat," She answered simply, stroking the cat's head with one hand. It blinked appreciatively.
"Elaborate please," He blinked, causing her to chuckle at him.
"My niece gifted it to me," She smirked at him. "Told me she designed it, so that means she picked out the color and the eyes while Tony did the rest."
"You have a niece? How old is she?" His interest was piqued and he turned his attention back to her.
"She's nine, turning ten soon." Taylor picked out two plates from the counter, setting them down beside her. "Her name's Maddy."
"How old is your brother then if your niece is this big already?"
"I know this will be a bit surprising, but he's forty-one. There are eighteen years between him and me. Perks of being an accidental pregnancy I guess," Taylor joked, pushing a plate of omelets in front of him. "Want some toast with it?"
