Taylor sat on the couch in the living room of her apartment with a perplexed expression visible on her face. Steve was standing in front of her, apparently trying to tell her something, pacing back and forth as she followed him with her eyes. It was slowly making her dizzy, so she just shook her head to herself and ran a hand through her hair to get it out of her face, leaning back into the cushions.
Steve's face showed a mix of excitement and nervousness, his lips quirking up at the corners every other second, just to go back to a slight frown instantly. He really wanted to tell her something, that was apparent, but something was holding him back, which also unnerved her a little.
"Fury told me not to tell anyone about this," he began, and Taylor automatically rolled her eyes at him.
Fury always said that to everyone, even about the smallest information, but he stopped bothering Taylor with it when he realized she would be snitching to her brother either way. Except that now turned into Fury not sharing anything with her so no information would go past the doors of the facility. Yet Steve was doing just the opposite of what Fury asked, and that was making her a little proud, even though it probably wasn't her influence.
"That shouldn't stop you. I mean I work at S.H.I.E.L.D., so nothing really surprises me." Taylor shrugged, trying to sound convincing. There were still many things that surprised her, and not only at her workplace. "Does it concern me?"
"No," Steve sighed, running a hand quickly through his hair. He was growing a bit anxious, Taylor could tell. "Only me."
"Go ahead, then." She looked up at him, trying to read his eyes that were now glued to the floor. Her curiosity didn't let her back down though, so she simply tried to figure out his feelings from his expression instead.
"You know I'm not supposed to go on missions, right?" He began carefully, and Taylor's eyes automatically narrowed. His arms were crossed in front of his chest, and Taylor forced herself not to look at his biceps. She just nodded back at him. "Well, one of the agents was injured and now he can't go on a mission..."
"Very vague." She commented, knowing fully well that Fury wasn't about to share what kind of injury the poor person got with a newbie who was about to accept his offer.
"I wasn't given much information about it either." He mumbled, sighing a little. Of course. "Only enough to know that I'm replacing him for the sake of the mission. Nothing extreme."
"It's a S.H.I.E.L.D. mission, of course, it will be extreme." Taylor glanced at him with an unamused look, raising an eyebrow in his direction. She crossed one leg over the other to stop them from bouncing and drummed her fingers on the couch.
"Still, I'm not going there to fight. Apparently." He shrugged nonchalantly, causing her to frown again. That meant that he wasn't going to do that originally, but of course, if the situation escalated, he would have to. "I'm leaving tomorrow."
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Taylor pressed, watching his face morph into confusion, then a bit of annoyance. "No offense, but you didn't pass that test for a reason, and I don't want anything to happen-"
"Yes, I think it's a decent idea." He interrupted her, unwilling to react to her other sentence. He held a hand up as he spoke, his mouth now set into a firm line. "I need to stop laying around the house all the time and get to work."
"Steve," Taylor stared at him, seeing how the fire in his eyes was burning brighter than ever. He really wanted to go, and she knew he would be going either way, so she could either disagree with him and argue, or give in so she wouldn't ruin their blooming relationship. "If you think it's a good idea, then I'm not going to stop you. It's not like I can anyway." She threw him a half smile.
