For Thursday, Taylor took a day off and promised Tony to spend the whole day with Maddy and figure out what she wanted for her birthday the most. Maddy had always been a complex little girl, as she had everything she wanted, resulting in Tony and Taylor rarely getting her anything she truly wanted.

Sure, she was glad to get presents, she would have been happy for an orange as well, but Taylor wanted the perfect gift. She wanted Maddy to shriek in excitement once she saw her present. So, what could an almost ten-year-old girl want the most? Taylor had little to no idea.

She told Steve a day before that they would have her niece over, and he was actually happy to meet her after Taylor talked about her for so long. Then again, she was sure Maddy would be absolutely thrilled to meet Captain America himself too.

Tony called a few minutes prior, telling Taylor that he would only be dropping Maddy off quickly because he had a meeting to attend, but Taylor was sure that it was only an excuse to not meet Steve in person. She didn't mind that though, it was just one less thing to worry about. She really didn't want to see two grown men at each other's necks.

"Steve!" Taylor yelled in exasperation from the living room, searching for her phone between the cushions. She lost it again. "Have you seen my phone? Maddy will be here any second now."

He descended the stairs quickly without a reply, jogging over to her hunched form, and pressing her phone in her hands. His hands were warm against her cold ones. She looked up at him in confusion but unlocked the phone anyway to send a quick text back to Tony.

"Where was it?" She asked with a sigh, looking up from her phone. Steve stood beside her with his hands crossed over his chest.

"On your bed," He smiled. "Still better than last time when you left it in the fridge. Who puts that stuff in the fridge?"

"It was by accident! I obviously wouldn't put it there on purpose!" Taylor rolled her eyes, bumping her shoulder with his as she walked past him.

She shot a grin at him, looking over her shoulder as she went to the door. She stood on her tiptoes to look out the peephole of the door, waiting for little Maddy to turn up.

"You are really excited to see her," Steve commented as he sat down on the couch in the living room, and Taylor merely nodded back.

"I feel like I haven't seen her in ages! I'll make sure she has the time of her life," Taylor smirked, turning to Steve. "Ready to meet her? Put yourself in kids-friendly mode."

"I'm always kids-friendly."

"False," Taylor put a finger up accusingly. "I heard you swear the other day when you accidentally kicked the coffee table."

Steve laughed abruptly, clearly not expecting that kind of an answer. His laugh flooded Taylor with warmth. It was always rare when he laughed without any care in the world, and she loved the sound of it. Or maybe she just liked making people laugh in general.

There was a knock on the door, making Taylor spin around, pulling it open with a big grin on her face. Tony and Maddy stood in front of her, both smiling at her as she drew them in a hug.

"You are in a very good mood today," Tony commented, letting go of his sister. He nodded at Steve who was now awkwardly standing in the back, then turned to Maddy. "Don't be naughty or I'll be hearing about it."

"Yeaaaah, sure," Maddy grinned cheekily at Tony, who huffed as he ruffled her hair.

"Good to see you, grandpa," Tony greeted Steve. "You too Tay. See you later."

Maddy giggled at her father as she walked inside, kicking off her boots as Taylor helped her take off her fluffy coat. Her long brown hair was braided into two, probably done by Pepper, as Tony couldn't braid for his life. Taylor inspected it with a grin.
