Chapter 72

MASON:
I sit here staring at the photo of Ads in the hospital, Decs right, I should be there. I've let Tara come between me and my family, I've only been with her 2 weeks. I always swore Ads came first, she's my baby sister and I've let her down. I realise what Dec said about if she doesn't make it, she'll die thinking I hate her and I can't live with that.
I pull my trainers on and Tara says "Where you going babe?" I look up and reply "where do you think? I'm going to the hospital, Ads is fighting for her life!" She looks horrified "I already said they probably don't want you there, you might as well stay with me" then I realise they were right, she just doesn't want me to be near anyone else. "Tara, my little sister is fighting for her life, of course I will be there, My best friend and brother is sitting at his wife's bedside broken, thinking how he's going to tell his son that mummy isn't coming home for a while, I need to be there for him too. They're my family. It's not about being wanted" she looks at the floor and said "Why can't you just make me your priority? I'm your girlfriend, you don't need the others" then I realise I was an asshole, Ads was right all along. "Fuck off Tara, we're done. Ads was right wasn't she, you said all them things?" She nods and says "it worked though, it's like when she slapped me and you had a go at her, I made sure you walked in then and didn't hear what I said before" she's so smug, I shout and tell her to leave as I realise, Dec was right, if I had listened to Ads, this wouldn't have happened.
Once I know Tara has left, I get my coat and see Ads old bear she had since she was a child, I grab it and take it with me.
I run through to where she is and I get to the window and see her laying there with the tubes and machines, it's heartbreaking. I open the door and walk in, Ben gives me a small smile and taps Decs shoulder then points. Dec looks up and sees me, he's a mess, I've never seen him look this hurt, he runs up to me and falls apart in my arms, my tears are falling but I know this is where I should be. "I'm so sorry Dec, it's all my fault." He looks up and says "you're here now that's all that matters" we walk to the chairs and I lean over kissing Ads head, placing the bear next to her, "I'm so sorry Ads, please be okay so I can apologise and make it up to you, I love you more than anything, I can't lose you" I sit and hold her hand.
By 4am, I notice that all the lads have fell asleep and so has Dec, his head is laying on the hospital bed and he's not let go of her hand. I think I'm the only one awake until I hear "I'm glad you came" it's Jack he's awake too. "I am too, I fucked up lad, I just hope I get to apologise" he sits next to me and says "she's strong, she's a fighter. What happened to Tara?" He says and I shrug "she's gone, she admitted she lied to get me away from everyone, did you know before Ads left tonight, she slapped her in the face" I say and Jack laughs, we talk a little bit more then I feel sleep take over.
I wake up and look around, it's only me and Dec in the room. "Morning, how is she?" I say and he says "no change, drs said they're not expecting any change for a couple of days. I need to speak to Teddy, what do I say bro?" I walk over to him and hug him, "I don't know but did you want me to come with you? We can tell him together, maybe take Jack too" he nods and I say that I'll speak to the boys, he says they're in the waiting room as they went to get coffee.
I walk into the waiting room and say "lads I need a favour, I know you lot are already being amazing being here but can I ask one more thing?" They all nod as I continue "Dec and I need to go and try to explain to Teddy today, that mummy won't be home for a while. Jack can you come with us please? And lads can I ask if one of you's can stay by her side while we're gone?" Jack instantly replies and says "of course I'll come." And then Madders says "I'll sit with her" and Hendo says "me too" then Chilly says "we ain't leaving her alone mate I promise, she's like a little sister to us." I smile and then say "we don't expect you all to stay, you've all got lives and things to do" they all shake their heads "nothing as important as Ads right now" Phil says.
DECLAN:
We've arrived at Jacks and as we walk through the door, Bex runs up and gives me a cuddle "hey, how is she?" I shake my head "no change. Thank you so much for having the kids. I'll try and sort something out so I don't inconvenience you too much" she shakes her head "I'll have these little ones as long as needed. Becca's bringing Ronnie over today to play with Teddy if that's okay, we thought he could do with the distraction" I smile at her "course it's okay" Mason then says "tell her to meet you at my place, there's more toys there for them to play with, and more familiar for Evelyn." We all agree and she goes to get Evelyn and call Becca while we sit with Teddy, he runs to us and gives us all a cuddle then, my heart breaks "Daddy, Where's mummy?" I smile at him trying not to cry, Jacks sitting next to Teddy and Mason the other side and I'm crouched in front, I nod to the boys and start "Teddy mate, mummy's not going to be here for a while?" I say and he looks confused "mummy gone?" He asks and I nod "only for now. Mummy poorly" he looks sad "mummy at hospital?" I nod and smile through the tears falling "mummy's at the hospital, she's sleeping at the moment." He looks at me and says "When will mummy wake up?" I shrug and say "daddy don't know yet buddy, soon hopefully" he runs off crying screaming that he wants mummy. I break down crying again, Jack follows Teddy and Mason holds me.
