Chapter 17: The Marks of You

Day passed by and Ashley's search for answers was still in progress. But in this hunt, she became a little closer with Kai. The dark secrets were hidden deep in forest. So whenever she would be trying to find and would communicate with smaller nearby sub-packs of Crystal Falls, Kai would watch her. It first started with glare and hint of curiosity, a little bit bicker but after a hot meal they shared, they came to know so much about each others liking and common topics they enjoy and share. They started to become good friends? They're compatibility grew with time and Ashley would always ask him to join her pack. Teasing him too much.

Ashley remembers as flashes of recent days passed in front of her eyes while Alarick burned from inside seeing her laughing whole-heartedly with another man she met some days ago, 

was Kai always this funny or is this some kind of their inside joke?

Alarick wanted to march there and snatch her away from him, but can he?

Yeah, of course he can, she is his mate but then he loves Allison – Alarick's thoughts keeping jumbling inside his head like a typhoon forming with devastation and anger.

Ashley was shocked seeing Kai there, she wanted to leave but when Kai asked to dance, she couldn't help but oblige. The wind was with them today, as he turns her from side to side, her hair would flow with it and soft cold breeze adding more to the atmosphere and her aromatic scent to linger around with spark. Kai was a good dancer, so when Ashley complimented the same, his reply made her chuckle

"Well, one of us has to"

"I didn't pick you as party type" Ashley remarked smirking

"Well, I was looking for someone special, I believe" Kai said with no expression on his face

Ashley looked up at him, shocked and an unexpected laugh left from her lips.

"That was so cheesy."

And Kai couldn't help but laugh along with her. Ashley raked her eyes over him as they continue to sway side by side with the flow of music. Kai indeed was her type, tall, bulky, black curly hair as wind would pass through them, they would fall over his forehead, making his brown eyes twinkle every time he looked at her.

Ashley smiled back at him, "You do know you're weird, right?"

"And what about you? You are staying here at a stranger's pack, wandering around. What are you looking for exactly, hmm?" Kai asked, narrowing his eyes down at her

"Who said I'm looking for something?" Ashley retorted back in arrogance

"Your eyes tell" Kai said without blinking

Their movement slowed down a notch, as both of his hands rested on her waist while Ashley tangled both of her hands, sliding from his bulging muscular arms to back of his neck. Kai's soft curly hair, touching her fingers with every sweep. Ashley failed to notice before, his long mullet resting on his neck, shows him more mysterious than he already looked.

Kai thought - There was something strange about this girl, she was indeed a beauty but he could see a deadly beast hidden inside her and...

that didn't scare him, it intrigued him in a very twisted way.

Ashley's one hand slide towards Kai's neck, as she dangerously whispered, only for him to hear, "You're wrong, Warrior Boy"

Her eyes looking more pale than usual as Ashley smirked up at him, "and what if I do, are you willing to help me?" thinning her eyes a little in amusement to tease Kai

Kai was about to answer when they were interrupted by someone, informing them that Alpha has requested for Ashley's presence.

Her own eyes flashed irritation from the remark, but nodding along she detangled herself, walking towards the house with bucket full of thoughts swirling in her mind.
