𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 break in and murder of the chicken, John B had piled us all into the van once again.

He was convinced that Redfield Lighthouse was the place that Big John had sent him to but the rest of us weren't so convinced.

I leaned my head against the back seat, looking out of the window in thought. I ended the poor chicken's life.

I suddenly felt a hand reach for mine and I immediately knew they were JJ's. He squeezed me tightly and sent me a reassuring smile.

John B spoke up, "I mean it's obvious, right? A family heirloom. What better place to hide a message? He had to know it was gonna get back to me, right?" He continued.

Kiara hesitated from the passenger seat before she spoke, "Yeah, it's possible."

Pope dangled the compass between his fingers, inspecting it. "It could also be possible that you're concocting wild theories to help, you know deal with your sad feels."

Pope was the one to say what everyone was thinking, but me and Kiara didn't want to upset John B.

"Bro, you know how I process my sad feels," JJ spoke from opposite me. "Dank mugs and the stickiest of ickies, that's how I do it."

"I am not concocting, okay?" John B interrupted him in annoyance, "My dad's trying to give me a message."

Kiara turned to face him. "If it helps you believe, John B."

"I don't need a therapy session, okay?" The Routledge boy snapped back. "I'm not tripping out."

I looked at him, "It's okay to trip, John-"

He cut me off, "Hayley, my dad is missing. Okay? Missing. You don't know what it's like to have the person closest to you vanish and then have no idea what happened. You just wake up every morning wondering."

"It's been almost a year, Johnny," I told him softly. I hated to see him like this, "I do know what it's like. I lost my mom too, remember?" I reminded him. However, I was ignored for the rest of the journey.

I understood how he felt, but I was often overlooked. I still had my sister, whereas John B had no close family left apart from all of us.

I took my mom's disappearance hard at first. The three of us used to be very close until she started chasing lost treasure with Big John and he barely saw her.

Everyone seemed to forget that I lost my mom too. Including me. But not JJ. He always went out of his way to check on me and make sure I was okay.

The five of us jumped out of the van once we parked, gazing up at the tall building. "Right." John B turned to us. "Hayley, JJ and Pope you're gonna stay out here and look out for bogeys, okay?"

Pope and JJ started shouting after Pope mentioned something and a dependent variable but I didn't speak 'Pope Heyward language'.

"If we get split up, we meet back at Hayley's house." John B informed us before he and Kie headed towards the lighthouse.

I rolled my eyes, "Who put him in charge?"

Pope headed back toward the van. "I'm gonna work on my merit scholarship essay, and I'm trying to keep felonies to a minimum."

I rolled my eyes once again. "Pope, I love you but if you don't shut up about that scholarship I will hit you."

He sent me a playful glare as he got into the back of the van. "Hayley!" JJ shouted, throwing a ball my way, which I caught.

Suddenly, the sound of sirens rang through my ears. They hadn't even been in there five minutes. "Already?" I scoffed in disbelief, "Fucking idiots."

JJ got into the driver's seat of the van before speeding off.

"What about JB and Kie?" Pope spoke, worried for his friends.

"They'll meet with us at my house. I need to see my sister anyway." I sighed.
