𝐖𝐄'𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐎𝐆𝐔𝐄𝐒, and our mission this summer is to have a good time, all the time. It was the start of summer, and me and my friends were hanging out at one of the Kook houses that was being built.

The sound of seagulls rang through my ears as John B and I stood on the roof, a beer clutched between my fingertips. The brunette boy took a sip of his, dangling his dirty converse over the edge.

'That's what, a three-story fall to the deck?" Pope asked rhetorically to John B. "I give you about a one-in-three chance of survival." He was standing below us, holding something that the workers would have used if they were there, but I didn't know shit about that sort of thing.

John B hummed in response, licking the beer off his finger to test the wind. "Should I do it?" He said sarcastically, I rolled my eyes in response, using my free hand, I tried to get the hair out of my face that was sticking to my lipgloss. One thing about me is that I hate having chapped lips, although I don't have the money to buy myself these things when it comes to my lipgloss, I found a way to get my hands on it.

"Yeah, jump!" The Heyward boy shouted back jokingly, pointing whatever he was holding up at John B. "I'll shoot you on the way down"

He replied, equally as sarcastic making finger guns to point at the boy. "You'll shoot me?"

The conversation was interrupted as my best friend, Kiara Carrera, walked out from being inside checking out the place. "They're gonna have Japanese toilets with towel warmers." She complained. I rolled my eyes. Although the two of us were best friends, we were very different. She would ramble on about the animals and saving the planet whereas I couldn't give a shit.

"Of course they are Kie, if I had the money for it I would," I replied while sliding down the roof. JJ must have seen what I was trying to do so he walked over to help me down.

"Come on, pretty girl." He latched onto my small waist, going back to where he was previously sitting as I got comfortable in between his legs. This was just how me and JJ were. He was like this with all the girls but I won't lie and say it doesn't give me butterflies in my stomach every time he whispers sweet words in my ear or pepper kisses down my neck.

The tanned girl looked at me appalled at what I had said. "This used to be a turtle habitat, but who cares about the turtles, I guess?"

I smirked, trying to wind her up even more. "I can't have cold towels."

She ignored my response and looked up to the roof where John B still was. JJ wrapped his arms around me tighter and I could feel his hot breath on my neck, leaving shivers to run down my spine.

"Can you please not kill yourself?" She yelled up to the Routledge boy. I had this feeling that Kie liked John B but never said anything to me about it.

This rule Kiara made between the group was 'No Pogue on Pogue macking' so the boys knew we were off limits, but sometimes I couldn't help but wish that stupid rule didn't exist. I used to think that if it didn't, JJ and I would be together.

The blond boy warned, "Don't spill that beer. I'm not giving you another one."

As if on cue, John B had lost his balance and in the process, dropped his beer beneath him.

I laughed in response while the rest of the group let out giggles. John B was groaning at the loss of his drink loudly, while Pope leaned over the scaffolding since he heard a car pull up.

Confirming my suspicions, Pope let us know that security had arrived. This was my favourite part of the day. It gave me the adrenaline that I loved so much. Hearing all my friends laugh as we made our way to escape the construction site. My hands were linked with Kie's as we jumped inside the back of the van, John B in the driver's seat.

JJ and Pope had finally caught up, and Gary, one of the security guards was still chasing after our van, even though he had no chance of catching up.

"Check out Gary, gunnin' for a raise" Pope joked.

"Come on, Gary!"

I smiled, picking up my empty beer can. After asking John B to slow down, which he gladly accepted, I leaned my body out of the van.

"Hales, you're gonna give him a heart attack." Kiara laughed.

"You can do it, Gary! You're so close." I egged him on, throwing my beer can at him, which he caught.

The van erupted in laughs as JJ commented, "They don't pay you enough, bro."

Of course, with Kie being the mom of the group was telling us to stop, but she still had a smile on her face.

"Come on, that sort of initiative is just begging to be punished." JJ leant back into his seat next to me, throwing his arm around my small frame. I looked out behind me, to see that Gary had given up in chasing us.

I smiled in contentment. I really did love my friends. They were my family. I still had my older sister, Riley who I was extremely close to. We never used to be but after my mom went missing with John B's dad Big John, we became closer. I've never met my dad. He left when he found out my mom was pregnant with me due to the fact that he never even wanted any kids and Riley was enough. My grandparents also disowned my mom when she got pregnant with my sister at sixteen, so it had always only been the three of us. Up until now.
