117 AC, King's Landing
Valyria's prediction had been correct.
King Viserys's messenger had not returned - according to the letter Valyria received from Laenor Velaryon the poor man had been beaten to death by Daemon - and after hearing that his brother was sending aid, Daemon had done something impulsive and reckless that won him the war in the Stepstones. After the dornish forces had pulled back the victory against the Crabfeeder came much easier since he no longer had any allies to support him with supplies and men.
Three moons had passed since then. During that time, negotiations between Dorne and the Crown for the marriage between Princess Valyria and Qoren Martell, Prince of Dorne, had taken place. No betrothal had been announced by King Viserys yet; the negotiations were going slow since the Small Council's attention was divided between her betrothal and Rhaenyra's search for a husband.
Two moons ago, after Viserys had given her permission to choose her future Consort, Rhaenyra had departed on a tour across the realm to find said man. While Valyria wished she could have been there for Rhaenyra and help her, it was not fair to leave Elara and Cyrenna for such a long time and having them come alone wasn't a practical option either.
According to the letters she had received from the Princess of Dragonstone, she was nowhere near finding a suitable candidate. In King's Landing, Serra and Cecily had even started a bet about how long it would take before Rhaenyra returned to the Red Keep without a betrothal in mind. Cecily had more faith in Rhaenyra and guessed four moons whereas Serra had guessed one.
In the end, Serra was the closest since it took only two moons for Rhaenyra's ship to be spotted in Blackwater Bay. On top of that, Caraxes had been spotted in the sky which sent the entire castle into a frenzy because it meant Prince Daemon - and according to rumours the newly crowned King of the Narrow Sea - had returned.
Valyria did not know what to feel as she made her way into the throne room, the crowd parting to allow her to pass through. Daemon elicited emotions in her that confused her to no end; the ambivalence of her feelings towards him were so bewildering that she usually settled for letting her frustrations seep out in the form of annoyance.
King Viserys stood in front of the Iron Throne, holding Blackfyre in his right hand, as he watched his court enter the throne room. "Valyria," he motioned for her to come closer and she quickly climbed the steps and curtsied before the King. In private, she would not have bothered with such formality but in front of the realm it was important to show her respect towards her King. "Is Rhaenyra here?" he whispered, irritation clear in his words.
