As Lucas and Cyril snuggled into the warmth of Scarlett's presence, they rested their heads on her shoulders, completely at ease. Lucas's curious fingers toyed with the delicate diamonds adorning her wedding dress, while Cyril's attention was captivated by her cell phone.
Suddenly, the phone rang, shattering the tranquil atmosphere, and heads swiveled in unison towards the sound. Lucas, still holding the phone, gazed up at the screen, and his eyes widened as he took in the contact picture that flashed before his eyes. The image seemed to freeze time, as if the world was holding its breath in anticipation of what would happen next.
Lucas's brow furrowed as he gazed at the contact picture, his expression a mixture of curiosity and annoyance. With a sigh, he connected the call, answering in a tone that was equal parts boredom and disdain. "What do you want?" he drawled.
The person on the other end of the line hesitated, taken aback by Lucas's attitude, before asking, "Where is the owner of the cell phone you're holding?" Their voice was cold and demanding, but Lucas remained unimpressed.
"She doesn't want to talk to irrelevant people like you," he replied, his tone still laced with boredom. Tristian, sensing an escalation, moved to intervene, but Cyril shot him a warning glance, silently urging him to let Lucas handle the situation. Tristian's eyes narrowed, but he reluctantly held back, intrigued by his son's boldness.
"Hand the phone to its owner, kiddo," the voice on the other end growled, its deadly tone making Lucas's tiny head shake in disapproval, as if scolding a misbehaving adult.
"Are you deaf, dumb, or just really bad at understanding human language?" Lucas retorted in a childish tone, his words dripping with condescension. "Let me try again, so even you can get it: She doesn't want to talk to a fool like you. And, by the way, you're not a real man."
The man's response was immediate and explosive, his voice thundering through the phone's loudspeaker. "Who are you calling a fool, you little bastard?!" The room fell silent, with all eyes fixed on Lucas, who remained unfazed, his bored tone still intact. The air was electric with tension, as if the conversation had reached a precarious tipping point.
The room held its collective breath as the man's insult hung in the air, except for Scarlett, whose anger was simmering just below the surface. Scarlett's voice, low and deadly, cut through the tension like a knife. "Don't. You. Dare. Call. My. Son. A. Bastard." Each word was enunciated with precision, leaving no room for misinterpretation. "Or else I'll haunt you down, and you'll never dare to cross my path or dial my number again."
The eyes of everyone in the room snapped towards Scarlett, their expressions a mix of shock and awe at the unbridled fury in hers voice. Scarlett's anger, meanwhile, had reached a boiling point. She couldn't believe the young man's audacity in calling Lucas a bastard; it was a provocation that seemed to court disaster. The air was heavy with anticipation, as if the very atmosphere was charged with the promise of retribution.
"Scarlett, that little one called me a fool for no reason!" the man protested, his tone laced with indignation.
Scarlett's response was dismissive, her voice dripping with boredom. "That's because you're a fool, just like he said earlier." With a languid gesture, she signaled for Lucas to end the call, which he did with a muttered "such an annoying fly."
Scarlett's agreement was swift and amused. "Indeed, he's an annoying fly." The room erupted into a chorus of stifled chuckles and shaking heads, as if everyone was wondering the same thing: Where did these children meet this enigmatic woman, and how had she managed to win their hearts so effortlessly? The question hung in the air, unanswered, as the group continued to marvel at the unlikely bond between Scarlett and the two young boys.
