Tristian's gaze remained transfixed on Scarlett as she tended to his wrist with meticulous care. She retrieved the first aid kit, opening it with a soft click, and extracted an ointment, which she applied to his bruises with gentle, soothing strokes. Her touch was a balm to his skin, and he felt his tension ease as she worked.
As he drew closer, Tristian was struck by Scarlett's natural beauty, unadorned by makeup. Her features, once subtle, now shone with a quiet radiance, captivating him.
"There, all done," she said, her voice a soft melody, as she finished applying the ointment. "It's not serious, and with this, it'll heal in no time." Her apology followed, accompanied by a nervous scratch of her head, "And sorry again, I don't know why I did that... guess I'm just being overprotective of someone's kids too much." Tristian's amusement grew as Scarlett's words tumbled out in a charming, nervous cascade, her eyes darting about like a flustered bird. He found himself enchanted by her endearing display of vulnerability.
"You don't have to apologize," Tristian said, his voice calm and soothing, putting Scarlett at ease.
"Okay," she replied, her gaze meeting his once more. Tristian's eyes roamed over her face, taking in the subtle changes. Her makeup was gone, revealing a natural beauty that was both captivating and understated. She had also shed her wedding dress, replacing it with a simple yet elegant black shirt that fell to mid-thigh, paired with ankle-length skinny jeans that hugged her curves. He suspected his kids had chosen the outfit, their thoughtful gesture evident in the way the clothes complemented her slender frame.
But it was her eyes that truly held Tristian's attention. They sparkled with a mesmerizing intensity, holding a depth of experience and wisdom that he couldn't quite decipher. Her gaze seemed to whisper secrets of the past, hinting at stories untold and emotions unexpressed. Tristian felt himself drawn into their depths, like a sailor helpless against the allure of a siren's call.
"These boys planned it well," he thought secretly while shaking his head internally.
"Pretty....," they both heard a sleepy voice call which made them turn to look at the person.
Scarlett waltzed her way to the bed and saw that both boys were awake.
"We're hungry," Lucas told her rubbing his stomach.
Okay, lemme help you freshen up before we go downstairs, she told them which they both agreed to with a nod of their heads.
Tristian watched his children with mouths agape widely, his kids would never allow anyone to bathe them apart from him and his younger brother but they were suddenly allowing a stranger to help them with bathing which was very shocking for him.
Scarlett ushered the kids to their bedroom, leaving Tristian standing there, his mouth agape in stunned surprise. "You might want to close your mouth," she teased, her giggles tinkling like a melodic bell, filling the air with amusement. Tristian's face flushed with embarrassment as he hastily shut his mouth, feeling like a caught fish.
He beat a retreat to his bedroom, seeking refuge in the familiar routine of a warm bath and a change into comfortable casual wear. As he prepared for dinner, his mind whirled with thoughts of Scarlett and how to bridge the gap between them before his enthusiastic kids took matters into their own hands. The memory of her sparkling eyes and infectious giggles lingered, fueling his determination to connect with her on a deeper level.
Meanwhile, Scarlett's words continued to echo in his mind, "You might want to close your mouth..." a gentle reminder of the unexpected spark that had flown between them, leaving Tristian eager to fan the flames into a warm, golden glow.
**While in the boy's room, Scarlett helped them stripe out of their clothes helped them to wear their bathroom slippers, and ushered them into the bathroom to have their baths.
