Scarlett's words wrapped around Tristan's heart, a gentle yet firm grasp. "You've hurt me deeply, but I'm willing to bear it for you, my man. The world's opinions don't define the man I know. Marriage isn't just sweetness; it's about swallowing bitter pills to make it stronger."
Her voice was a soothing balm, yet it stung, reminding him of his transgressions. "You've never put our relationship at risk before. I believe you have reasons beyond my understanding, and I'm here to listen if you're willing to share."
Tristan felt the weight of her words, like knots tightening the loose threads of their relationship. Relief and pain swirled within him, a potent mix.
Was this what it meant to have a good wife? Lysanderia, his ex-wife, had never made him feel this way. Their marriage had been a delicate balancing act, him walking on eggshells, fearful of offending her. But Scarlett...she was different.
"But...no matter what the reasons are, I shouldn't have hurt you like that, it's not fair that you have to endure the pain alone," Tristian rebuke her words with a discontented sigh, his fingers tugging the wild strands of his locks behind his ears.
Scarlett's lips curled into a scoff as she heard Tristan's words. Her eyes narrowed, piercing him with an intense gaze. "Who said I endured the pain alone?" You can hide your darkest emotions from your family and friends but me, you know why?"she asked, her voice low and mysterious.
Tristan felt a shiver run down his spine as Scarlett's words wrapped around him like a dark, velvet cloak. "No... why?" he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper.
Scarlett's gaze locked onto his, her eyes burning with an inner fire. "Because we're soulmates, Tristan. We're two halves of the same whole. It's impossible to escape the depths of each other's emotions... and I wouldn't have it any other way."
Tristan's heart swelled, his eyes welling up with tears. No one had ever loved him like Scarlett did - with a fierce, all-consuming passion that shook him to his core.
Someone should tell him no woman loves her husband with their souls and he will be the one to give that person a slap despite his previous experience with his ex-wife.
"Besides, what kind of wife would I be if I didn't sense my husband's unspoken struggles? I didn't fall in love with you by chance. You're the cornerstone of my life, Tristan. I couldn't hate you, no matter what happens. I may get angry, hurt, but anger is a destructive emotion I refuse to unleash on the man I love."
Tristan felt his defenses crumble beneath Scarlett's words. He was powerless against her unwavering devotion, unable to refute her sentiments or summon anger. Tears pricked at the corners of his eyes, a testament to the depth of his emotions.
"So you're keeping me? No...no divorce? No fight?" He asked his voice trembling, it's unreal how perfect she was, beautiful and loving.
"No dummy. You're my husband, the best thing that has ever happened to me. Stop thinking less of yourself" Scarlett scolded with a sigh raising her hand to caress his face, she just loves him so much.
Tristan gazed tenderly at Scarlett as she drifted off to sleep. His hands trembled with emotion as he gently caressed her cheeks, his fingertips tracing the contours of her face. A soft, disbelieving laugh escaped his lips, and his eyes remained fixed on hers, drinking in the serenity of her features.
He couldn't fathom that, despite his past transgressions, Scarlett still chose to be by his side. The weight of her forgiveness settled upon him, filling his chest with a mix of emotions: gratitude, humility, and love.
Scarlett woke up with a languid yawn, stretching her arms above her head. But as she sat up, she felt a wave of discomfort wash over her. Her skin felt sticky, stale, and clammy, a grim reminder that she hadn't bathed in three days.
