There's nothing wrong with starting over...
____________
Tristan and his friends entered the ward, finding Scarlett asleep, her face etched with exhaustion and wariness. Even in slumber, her guarded expression hinted at a deep-seated mistrust of her surroundings.Isa sat vigilantly beside her, their hands intertwined, his dark eyelashes veiling half his face. Though his eyes seemed closed, Tristan detected a subtle tension, betraying Isa's wakeful alertness.
Every aspect of Isa's demeanor – from his rugged features to his coiled stillness – screamed danger. Yet, paradoxically, Tristan trusted this enigmatic young man with his cherished wife's safety.
Scarlett's fragile beauty contrasted with Isa's brooding intensity, and Tristan observed their entwined hands, symbolizing a bond he couldn't quite grasp.
"Still baffles me that you left Scarlett in his care," Leonardo said, his tone laced with lingering resentment. "You're willing to trust a stranger, yet you wouldn't even consider one of our own men."
Tristan's gaze remained fixed on Isa, his expression unreadable. "There's more to him than meets the eye," he said, his voice low and measured. "Isa may appear unassuming, but I've seen glimpses of something deeper. Something that tells me Scarlett is safe with him."
Leonardo's skepticism was palpable. "And what exactly have you seen?"
Tristan's pause hinted at unspoken understanding. "Let's just say Isa's simplicity is a facade. He's calculated, resourceful, and fiercely loyal. I'd stake Scarlett's life on it."
Ricardo's brow furrowed, his head cocked to one side. "Who is he? I've never seen him before, yet... there's something familiar about him."
Lucio shrugged off his overcoat, a yawn escaping his lips. "Save yourself the trouble, Rico. Scarlett's got this covered. And with Tristan backing her, problem solved."
Ricardo's gaze lingered on Isa. "I'm not worried about Scarlett's capabilities, but this guy... there's something about him."
Lucio raised an eyebrow. "You thinking he's trouble?"
Ricardo hesitated. "No, that's just it. I'm not getting any warning signs. It's like he's... neutral."
Lucio chuckled. "Neutral? That's just Scarlett's influence. She's got a knack for calming storms."
Isa's eyes snapped open, his gaze sweeping across the four men in the ward. "You people talk too much," he said, his voice low and even.
His eyes lingered on Tristan, a flicker of understanding sparking within them. For a moment, Isa's mask slipped, revealing a depth that made Ricardo's curiosity pique.
As Isa's gaze held Tristan's, a subtle connection formed. It was as if Isa saw beyond the surface, recognizing the essence of the man Scarlett loved.
Tristan's expression remained neutral, yet Isa sensed the complexity beneath. A silent acknowledgment passed between them, a nod to the unspoken bond Scarlett shared with her husband.
Isa's gaze broke away, his expression once again impassive. "She's waking up," he stated, his voice softening as he turned back to Scarlett.
Isa's words barely faded when Scarlett's groggy murmurs escalated into a string of curses, her voice laced with frustration.
Amusement danced in Isa's eyes as he watched Scarlett's eyelids flutter open and shut in rapid succession. Her gaze darted around the room, struggling to focus.
Scarlett groaned, rubbing her temples. "Damn it, I feel like I downed ten bottles last night. Those bastards must have knocked me out."
As her vision adjusted to the ward's brightness, her gaze landed on a familiar face. Tristan's features, usually animated, were now subdued.
