My mother told me the news.
Kaneki was in the hospital.

"No. . ." I cupped my mouth. I should have invited him to stay with me. This is all my fault. "Kaneki. . ." I couldn't cry. The sobs were stuck in my throat, and I felt like I couldn't breathe. I was in shock, despair, sorrow; I couldn't make up my mind.

My mother pulled me into a tight hug. She rubbed my back. "I'm sorry, baby." The sobs finally came out. "Kaneki!" I gasped for air. "This is all my fault! He should've stayed with me! I should've-" The tears wouldn't let me finish.

I wanted to see him. "Mom, please take me to him. I need to see him." Her face turned gray. "He doesn't want any visitors." I stopped breathing. What? No visitors? "Wh-what do you mean?"
My mother looked down. "I can't take you, I'm sorry, honey." "No Mom, you have to! He needs me!" "We need to respect his wishes, (Y/N)! Please! He doesn't want anyone to see him right now! Not even his own mother!"

I made my hand into a tight fist. "I'll walk there then!" I turned shoved past my mom and down the stairs. "(Y/N) no! Please, it's hard on him already! Don't make it more difficult for him! He's ashamed of himself!" I stopped in my tracks. Ashamed? I turn around and look up the stairs.

"Ashamed? Why?" I was panicking. Why would he be ashamed? "Aside from being attacked by a ghoul, he lost his eye." My mother said quietly, almost a whisper when she said "ghoul".

This might sound horrible, but that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. "Well, he's going to be okay, isn't he?" My mother started down the stairs. "(Y/N), I told you, it was near death sitiation. Give him time to rest and regain his confidence to face people again. Please. If not for me, then for him. You love him, don't you?"

Tears welled up in my eyes. She was right.
I nodded. "Okay." I sniffled. "I'm just going to walk to Antique and rest there. I need time for myself." My mother nodded. I walked out the door.

As I walked, I replayed last night, and how well it went. He was so happy, and now. . . Kaneki can't even face me.
I'm so sorry, Kaneki.
