(Mother's Name) POV
I sat beside her bed and held her hand, waiting for her to wake up.
"Oh. This poor girl. She's gone through so much this year." I said to (father's name). He nodded. "When do you think we should tell her about. . ."
"Not now, (f/n). She's been through enough already. She doesn't need to know that we're not the real parents. We will tell (Y/N) soon enough."
He nodded again and stayed silent.
The doctor walked in. "Hello, my name is Gabriella Diaz, but you can just call me Gaby. I am the one who did the operation on your daughter. I'm just here to tell you that the operation went very smoothly." She had a smile on her face.
But I could tell it wasn't real. Her eyes looked sad and tired. "Are you okay, doctor?" I asked her.
Her eyes flickered. "Yes I am fine, thank you for asking me. Now, if you have any questions, just click this button over here," she pointed at a button that was placed on the side of the bed's handle, "and Nurse Lopez will come to help you."
I nodded. "Thank you, doctor." "Oh please," she said with a smile, "call me Gaby."
(Father's name) stood up and shook her hand. She turned around and walked out, closing the door behind her.
"Did she look a little strange to you?" I asked (f/n). He looked at me with a confused look. "What do you mean?"
"Didn't she look. . . I don't know- depressed?" He sat there looking at me thoughtfully. "I didn't really pay attention."
"Like always." I mumbled. "What? What are you talking about? I always pay attention." He sounded agitated.
I looked at him. "Are you serious? You are always on that phone talking to you friends. You never pay attention to us!"
He laughed. "You are crazy, woman." He shook his head at me and scoffed.I got up and slapped him. "How dare you talk to me that way?!"
He looked surprised, for that is something I've never done before. "Sweetie I'm. . ." He stood up and left. What did I just do?!
(Y/N) woke up behind me. "Mom?" I turned around. "Mom are you okay?" Am I okay? I chuckled softly. "Am I okay? The question is if you're okay!"
I bent over and kissed her forhead. "Do you remember what happened sweetie? Do you know why you're here?" I asked her. She sat there for a moment looking up at the roof.
"Y-yeah, I think so. Didn't I fall down the basement stairs and break my leg or something?" She started to sit up, but winced in pain.
"It's okay sweetie, just lie down, you need to rest." I put my hands on her shoulders and gently pushed her back down. "Where's Dad?" She asked.
"He went to go get something. He'll be back soon."I lied. She nodded. Suddenly, her eyes widened. "Mom you need to go. Go back home, you're not safe here. Take Dad and go in the basement."
"I can't leave you here! Are you crazy? I'm staying here with you." I grabbed her hand. "Mom, what if the war spreads to here-" she gasped and looked past me.
Her doctor was standing there, listening. "It's ok," she said, "I already know." My heart calmed down. "My son will be fighting that war." She said. Tears formed in her eyes.
"Oh my," I said, "I'm so sorry." "Who is it?" (Y/N) asked. "(Y/N), there are some things you don't ask people." I told her.
"No, it's fine, really." The doctor said. She inhaled deeply. "His name is Hide." Her voice was shaky, and she gripped the clipboard tightly.
I placed my hand on hers and squeezed it. "I'll put him in my prayers." She nodded. "Thank you."
I turned around and looked at (Y/N). Her eyes were wide and tears were falling down from them. "Sweetie are you okay?" I stepped closer to her bed.
"H- Hideyoshi? Nagachika?" She looked directly at Dr.Diaz. she slightly nodded her head. "Oh my god!" (Y/N) started to sob.
"I've known him for. . years. Kaneki and I used to play with him since we were little!" (Y/N) cried even harder. "Kaneki?" The doctor said behind me. (Y/N) sniffled. "Yeah," she said. "Ken."
"Where is he now? Do you know?" She asked her. He's. . . a ghoul now. Someone did that to him." (Y/N) answered.
"That. . was me." I turned around, surprised. "What?" I asked. "That was you!?" (Y/N) exclaimed. The doctor nodded. "Yes, that was the only way to save him." "You're the one that created him into a MONSTER!?" She screamed.
"Hey, sweetie. It's okay, calm down." I put my hands on her shoulders and rubbed them.
"Do you see your friend as a monster?" The doctor asked. "W-what?" "Well, you said that I created him into a monster, right? Is that how you see him now? Not as your dear friend that you've known for years?" (Y/N) closed her mouth.
"And your daughter is right, Mrs. (Last name). You should go home. My staff and I will be here to take care of her. There's no need to worry." I looked back down at (Y/N), and she gave me a reassuring nod.
"It's okay Mom. Take Dad and go home. I'll be fine." She patted my hand. I stood there for a moment, thinking. "You are so brave." I said and kissed her forehead.
"I'll see you very soon honey. I love you." "I love you too, Mom."
The doctor walked with me to the door of the hospital. "Well," she said, "stay safe." She held out a hand and I shook it with a tight grip.
I started to walk out and then remembered something. "Hey, if you see my husband, please tell him I'm waiting for him at home." She nodded and smiled her sad smile.
"I'll make sure to tell him." She said, and with that, I walked out to wait out the war.
