Your POV

The skys outside were gray and it was about to rain. I looked at the clouds and sighed. Stay safe, Mom. Stay safe, Dad.

"Hello Miss (Y/N)." I heard the door close. I turn around and see a young woman. "Hi. I don't remember your name I'm sorry." I said.

She had blue eyes and brown medium-length hair. She also was somewhat shorter than my doctor.

The young woman smiled. "I'm Nurse Lopez. Antonia Lopez. But you may just call me Antonia." She sat at the edge of the bed.

"You don't mind, do you?" She asked, pointing at where she sat. "No, no of course not." I replied.

Antonia looked outside at the gray skies. "I like the sky when it's gray like that. It adds a more realistic feel to what the world really is. Don't you think?" She looked back at me. "Dark gray and twisted and unsafe."

I sat there, thinking about what she said. "Yeah." I slightly nodded my head. We sat there looking at the world outside, fearing the future event.

"What made you decide to be a nurse?" I asked Antonia after a few minutes of complete silence. She looked at me and gave me a real smile, not like the doctor's. "I wanted to follow my aunt's footsteps. Your doctor, Gaby. She took me in when my parents couldn't take care of me. They were too poor."

I listened to her talk with a quiet voice. "At first, I just wanted to be a nurse so I could give some of the money I earned to my parents, but they didn't want anything to do with me. After that I just looked up to Gaby for the support. Which she gave me, of course."

"All those years of Med school I thought that I was doing it for my parents, when I wasn't. I was doing it for Gaby, and her husband, and my cousins. Hide and Akane." She stopped talking, and I saw tears in her eyes.

Hide leaving for the war was hard on me, but it's a lot harder on his family. The sweet innocent boy that I've known for almost my whole life, was now going to war.

"How long have you known my cousin?" Antonia asked me. I thought back to when we first met.

It was the first day of second grade. My parents had walked with me to my classroom and introduced themselves to my new teacher.

They kissed me goodbye and I went to sit down towards the middle of the classroom, since I didn't like the front nor the back.

I saw Kaneki walk in with his mother and I waved at him. He smiled and sat in the seat next to me once his mother left.

"Hi (Y/N)." Kaneki said. "Hey! Isn't it cool we got the same class together?" I asked with excitement. "Yeah, and my friend Hide too!" He added.

I got jealous knowing that he had another friend. "Oh. That's cool too." I laid back in my chair, arms crossed. "Look, he's here!" Kaneki ran over to him and greeted him.

He was with both of his parents and two little girls. They walked over here and Hide introduced himself. "Hi," he gave me a bright smile. "I'm Hide. He stuck out a hand for me to shake.

"I'm (Y/N)." I said quietly and reluctantly and awkwardly shook his hand. Hide wouldn't stop smiling, and it was creeping me out.

After that I slowly became friendlier towards him until the three of us were inseparable.

"I met him when we were in second grade I'm pretty sure." I told Antonia, and she laughed at the part when I told her I was jealous.

"Yeah," she sighed. "Hide is an amazing friend to have, isn't he? He lights up the whole world with that smile of his. That dorky smile of his. . ." Her voice faded away.

"Excuse me." She cleared her throat. "I'm sorry I have to go finish rounds. My shift doesn't end 'till tomorrow." She got up and walked to the door.

Antonia looked back and smiled before she walked out. She kept her smile real though, that's a good thing about her. I admire that.

I looked back outside, but looked down instead of up. The people at the bottom looked so far away, and I felt like the whole hospital had been abandoned.

And for the very first time, I felt alone. The room had a new smell. It didn't even smell like a flower spray that had been sprayed earlier.

It just had a strong "medical" smell or whatever, and that wasn't helping my emotions.

I was infuriated and confused and sad and lonely and depressed. I wanted to be held by my parents and I just wanted to talk to Kaneki and Hide.

I couldn't keep in the emotions any longer. I turned around and screamed into the pillow. Tears rapidly fell and I kept screaming.

I wish that I was home and in my bed reading or talking to someone. I just wanted to have a normal life again. I want Hide to not go into war. I want to smile. I want to laugh.

I want Kaneki back.

My breathe felt like it could go on forever with my screams. And I didn't want to stop. "(Y/N)! (Y/N) listen to me! It's me, Gaby." I felt her hands on my shoulders and she turned me around and pulled me into a hug.

"I know, sweetie. I know. It's ok, I'm here." She sat down next to me and pulled me closed to her. Gaby stroked my hair and rocked me back and forth.

"I'm tired of everything too, (Y/N). I know how you feel. And you are a strong girl. You're stronger than I'll ever be. It's amazing how you're still hanging on and keeping yourself together."

I had calmed down a little by now, but still sobbed. "It's okay to just scream out sometimes to the world to tell that you're mad it. We all need that sometimes." She kept running her fingers through my hair.

"I don't like being alone!" I was able to say through my sobs. I heard Gaby's heartbeat stay calm, and it comforted me. "I'll stay here until you fall asleep. Does that sound good?" She asked me.

I sniffed and nodded. "Okay." She said and laid me down. Gaby laid down next to me and stroked my hair until the world went black.
