The whole week passed by as a series of sitting numbly in classes. Y/N felt like everything has changed, even though her usual group of friends acted the same way. Hinata was bickering with Kageyama, Yamaguchi tried to tell them to calm down and Tsukki was just scoffing at them, sometimes adding mean comments. Only the blonde man seemed to see how turbulent her feelings were, but he stayed quiet most of the time, just watching.
She tried to smile every time they were joking, but it felt like it was completely forced from her side.
Trying her best not to see anyone from outside of her classes, she spent most of her time in the library. Avoiding problems was bad and she knew this but going back to the dorms at normal hours seemed even worse. She would have to talk not only with Atsumu, but now probably with all her new friends. They deserved an explanation, even Terushima, who knew everything. She couldn't force herself to do that though. It was all fun and games, but only until she was sure there was no feelings involved.
It was Friday morning, two weeks before exam session. Y/N walked slowly through the school grounds, not really caring that she needed to be quick so she wouldn't be late for her train home. A need for someone to talk to, someone much more objective than all her friends from school was all she could think about.
She almost jumped when a car stopped by her side abruptly. She was already close to the gate, close to her short-termed freedom and now her heart started beating fast, like a little bird that wants to break free from a cage, hitting its little body against the bars.
She looked to the side and the panic she felt was quickly replaced by a relief.
"Isn't that suitcase too heavy?"
She looked at brown eyes of Tsukishima Akiteru. He was smiling softly and before she could answer, the car door opened, and he stepped outside.
"I can drop you off at the train station if you want." He offered lightly. "Of course, only if you want to."
Y/N nodded, smiling gratefully to one of her favorite teachers. If it was anyone else, she would probably decline and be late for her train, but she trusted the man. Not only he was one of the kindest teachers, but he was also her friend's brother and there were times when she talked to him outside classes.
"It would be great, thank you." She smiled, giving him the handle of her suitcase after he reached his hand for it.
As he was packing her stuff to the trunk, she surrounded the car and sat on the passenger's seat. The car wasn't new or expensive, given the teacher's salary, but it was very clean and looked like it was taken care of. There was no speck of dust on the dashboard, all the windows were clean, and the floor looked like it was freshly vacuumed. Afraid that her shoes alone would leave traces of sand, she tried not to move her feet at all.
Akiteru took his seat next to her and fastened the seatbelt, reminding the girl to do the same. "How do you like classes?" He asked with a light smile before putting in the first gear and starting to move forward slowly.
"They are a bit harder than I thought at the beginning, but I'm getting used to it." She answered, happy for the easy-going small talk.
"That's good." Akiteru said, speeding up a little. He seemed relaxed, making Y/N feel the same way. "You missed home before Christmas?" He asked another question, this time making the girl purse her lips slightly.
"Something like that." She answered, looking out the window. "It's more like I needed a break."
"I see." He smiled, keeping his eyes on the road. "The dorms can be... loud at times. Especially when it's the weekend."
