"You and Alex never fight," Mitch said tiredly as he stretched from the couch. I was pacing across the floor, it was something I do often. "Why now?"
I shrugged. "Beats me," I said. I ran my fingers through my hair. I hadn't had a bath in a whole day, and I've sweated many times throughout the last 24 hours. This moment included.
"Well, there has to be a reason why..."
"I think..." I started, but then I held my tongue. I couldn't tell him what I was about to say. I couldn't tell him or Alex. And besides, I think that they both already know. They just don't want it to be brought to attention.
"What?"
"Can I ask you for an honest answer?" I asked. He tilted his head to the side with a cocked eyebrow.
"Of course."
I had to take a breath of fresh air, because if things go wrong...it may be the last. Mitch has fangs underneath that cute little smile of his. I stopped my pacing so I could look him I'm the eye.
"You're...not jealous of Alex...are you?" The words that came next were caught in my throat. I had just accused my best friend of being jealous of my boyfriend. This could go very bad.
Mitch's eyes squinted. "No. I'm just...jealous of his time with you." He sighed. "Wai-"
"Goodnight, Scott." Mitch went back into his bedroom and closed the door, leaving me with my thoughts.
So this was an utter fail.
People are confusing. I guess I need to give them space.
But I'm not giving up.
