After the gym, Avi and Jeremy drove me through Burger King for my celebratory fast food. Avi was nowhere near me when I passed the finish line on the track. It made it even better when I got to rub my speed in his face.
All in good nature, of course.
I was about to comment on Avi and Jeremy's conversation about Burger King versus Wendy's when my phone buzzed from my pocket. I slipped it out and read the text in my head. The text was from Mitch. But what was the content?
Mitch: change of plans. hope you're okay with bringing jake back to film, yeah?
I felt my jaw clench. I swallowed the lump in my throat as I read the message over and over again in my head. I frowned, suddenly extremely confused. Why now? Of all times, why would Mitch do that?
What would having another man in the house (other than Wyatt) do to my feelings?
"Hey...Scott?" Avi asked timidly from the front seat. I looked up, but my frown still stuck to my face. "You okay, man?"
"Not exactly..." I started to tell my friends what was happening in my head, but I stopped myself.
What exactly was happening? The small tinge of jealousy for Mitch's suitors had always been there. They took my best friend's attention away from me. But this felt different, and it scared me.
Anyways, Jeremy and Avi weren't exactly love whisperers. I doubt that they would understand. Heaven knows that I didn't.
"You know what? It's okay. Just a little overreaction," I mumbled. If Mitch wanted to bring a boy home, who was I to stop him? I pushed my doubts away as I sent my reply back.
Scott: go ahead. but i expect all your attention and a wine night afterward.
It was only a few minutes later when Mitch confirmed.
Mitch: great...
